Americain was in familiar territory at the Werribee quarantine facility on Monday as he began the build-up to his Melbourne Cup defence.
Track rider Louise Zuili gave him a leisurely workout over two laps of the course, stepping from a walk to a slow trot.
Fellow French contender Dunaden followed Americain onto the track and had a look around over a lap-and-a-half while German import Lucas Cranach went onto the track with a lead horse for a light workout under the watchful eye of Lee Freedman.
The three were among the main contingent of European raiders for this year’s Cup to arrive on Saturday.
The next scheduled international arrival is that of Hong Kong three-year-old Bear Hero who is being aimed at the Coolmore Stud Stakes on October 29.
