Read what the jockeys and winning trainer had to say about their horses in the G1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick on 19/4/2025.
Winning Trainer
On the horse: “He is such a ripper. This prep, he has come out this time with the Oakleigh Plate and his next two runs have been absolutely outstanding. Four runs at Group One level. Browny as well. That was a very cool ride.”
“He’s done a great job. Super. Ozzie is very good at finding them.”
“He’s a cool horse, Jimmy. Great ownership group and he’s got a pretty cool jockey as well. Just thrilled. This has been a real come-out preparation for Jimmy.”
“A couple of states, it doesn’t matter. He performs and I take a lot of pride in that.”
“To pull off two Group Ones with this horse; they get the raps then the raps come off them. The owners have been so patient.”
Horse is so relaxed: “I said to Browny maybe not to let him have a pick of grass when he’s at the barriers like last start. I wanted him to be a little more switched on so no wonder he gave him a cool ride today. He was half asleep last start.”
“That’s what those big riders in those big races do — it gives the confidence and a confident ride. I’m thrilled for Browny. He’s a good mate.”
“He said to me last week, ‘thanks for that, it was my first winner in Sydney’. I said, ‘you just write down what you want to do and we’ll see if we can achieve it.’ I’m rapt for him to ride a Group One win up here at his second winner.”
“I’m sure there’s a lot more in store and it is only just beginning.”
The Everest: “I was thinking about The Everest after the Oakleigh Plate. The other day, he ran home a quicker time in the TJ than he did in the Oakleigh Plate, and his Oakleigh Plate was blistering.”
“He’s just a very good horse and I’m sure he’ll make his presence felt in The Everest.”
“He’s a horse that, if they can run home in that ridiculous time, normally they can’t do it at both ends and he’s just a very good horse and I’m sure he’ll be better again next prep.”
Maher’s new Bella Nipotina: “They’re not too dissimilar in size and shape.”
Winning Jockey: Ethan Brown
On the ride: “He needed a cool ride today. Sometimes it doesn’t always go our way being a backmarker. We were able to get in front of Antino. That was one box ticked and then it was just holding it together and looking for a gap.”
“He was able to clove through and when he hits top gear, there’s not many other horses that can go that quick.”
On his 6th G1 for the season: “Not really. I’ll take it all on board but I am getting great support. Great group of owners in this horse.”
“I’d like to dedicate this to my nan. She’s quite crook in hospital at the moment. That was for her.”
Returning from hospital: “I’m just doing my best. Through that fall and my time in hospital, I was very close to hanging the boots up but there was something deep down telling me that I’m not finished yet and I’d be dirty on myself if I didn’t have a crack again.”
“Very grateful that I’ve done that. I’ve always felt I’ve ridden well but it helps when you have the cattle under you and a lot of experience too over the last six months, which has helped. Feels like I’m furnishing well as a rider.”
Beaten Jockeys
Mark Zahra (Antino): “Just never travelled inside other horses.”
Tyler Schiller (Briasa): “I thought he tried his darndest. Probably was a little fierce early. Relaxed nicely in the mid-stages. Quickened up well but probably didn’t see the 1400m out as strong as we would have hoped.”
Tommy Berry (Desert Lightning): “He has run really well. He was a little fresh early in the race. Got into a nice rhythm. Felt the pinch the last furlong. First-up 1400m so will improve a lot from that.”
Josh Parr (My Oberon): “His prep is underway now. I found him in nice shape.”
Tim Clark (Osipenko): “Obviously short of his best. Nice return. Probably worth following up through Queensland.”
Chad Schofield (Sunshine In Paris): “Unfortunately the draw cost her again today. She went super.”
Rachel King (Belclare): “Really pleased with her. Six weeks between runs but thrown in the deep end and she ran really well.”
Jordan Childs (Magic Time): “She ran well. Probably ended up further back than we planned. She hit the line nicely.”
Zac Lloyd (Joliestar): “She was fantastic. Just worked with her once we got cover. The pace came out of the race. Very gallant effort. Felt the winner on the bend.”
Nash Rawiller (Kimochi): “Rode him like a 3kg (apprentice).”
Jamie Melham (Benedetta): “Once again unlucky. Poor thing she never gets much luck in her races. Got tightened up late and didn’t get a clear run.”
Jason Collett (Grail Seeker): “She didn’t step, over-raced. Just did a lot wrong today.”
James McDonald (Broadsiding): “He has done a marvellous job. He has had a good preparation. I reckon I rode him a fraction out of his comfort zone and that told the last little bit. Reckon if I rode him a little bit quieter, he would have been in the finish. He’s done a really good job. Has been a super horse to be part of.”
