Godolphin’s juvenile colt Aleppo Pine has firmed as a leading Blue Diamond Stakes contender after an impressive jumpout win at Caulfield on Thursday morning.
The son of Blue Point showcased his speed and ability, leading the trial at a fast pace under jockey Ben Melham.
Godolphin Melbourne Stable Head Nacim Dilmi was full of praise for the colt’s performance.
“He was outstanding, jumped really quick, led the trial in quite a fast time,” Dilmi told racing.com.
“He wasn’t asked to do too much, but Benny Melham said that’s as slow as he could go.”
Aleppo Pine pulled up well after the trial, leaving the stable satisfied with his progress.
“He looked pretty impressive, and he pulled up really well, so we couldn’t be happier with what he’s done this morning,” Dilmi added.
The colt is now Godolphin’s leading Blue Diamond Stakes hope among their Victoria-based juveniles, with the potential for Sydney-based two-year-olds to also join the campaign.
Aleppo Pine is scheduled to make his second career start in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for colts and geldings at Caulfield on Saturday week.
Currently an equal third favourite at $11 for the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield next month, Aleppo Pine is shaping as a key player in the prestigious two-year-old feature.
