Aidan O’Brien’s highly regarded Melbourne Cup contender will not be making the trip to Australia this spring.
Racing journalist Michael Felgate revealed on The Verdict podcast that Scandinavia, one of O’Brien’s leading hopes, has been withdrawn from Cup consideration. “It’ll become public over the next 24 hours,” Felgate said.
The news comes as uncertainty also surrounds the defending champion, Knight’s Choice. Trainer Sheila Laxon joined The Verdict to provide an update on the stayer, indicating his participation in this year’s Melbourne Cup remains in doubt.
