Promising two-year-old Acrobatic was the best bred horse at Doomben and he won like it.

Acrobatic ($1.45) jumped to the lead and cruised home beating Boom Ranga ($8.50) by three lengths in the Colts and Geldings 2Y0 (1200m) on Wednesday.

Bred at Queensland’s boutique Highgrove Stud, Acrobatic is by champion sire Snitzel out of the stakes-placed mare Emotional Circus.

Acrobatic was originally trained by Kevin Kemp in Toowoomba but is now with Kelly Schweida in Brisbane.

“I have had him for three months. He has a lovely pedigree and he shows a lot of talent,” Schweida said.

“Acrobatic can have a crack at a Saturday three-year-old now and he will be hard to beat.

“I must admit I was surprised he led today but he was the best horse and once he got to the front he was never going to be beaten.”

Schweida has had a lot of luck with horses from the Ron Gilbert-run Highgrove Stud.

“We go back to a filly named Discreet who won eight races including the Calaway Gal Stakes,” he said.

Trainer David Vandyke was also predicting a bright future for Toorooloo ($2.05) who won the 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate (1200m).

“She is a bit fiery and once she gets experience she will have a good future,” Vandyke said.

“That was a good midweek maiden and she has put them to the sword.”

Toorooloo is by underrated sire Tycoon Ruler and was a cheap buy at the QTIS Yearling Sales last year.

“She cost only $20,000 and has won more than that today,” Vandyke said.

Toorooloo was ridden by Ryan Maloney, who continued his outstanding winning strike rate for Vandyke having earlier won card-opening Maiden Handicap (1200) favourite on Express Fantasy ($1.85).

Maloney has ridden 31 winners for Vandyke at a strike rate of just over 40 per cent.

The Ciaron Maher-David Eustace partnership continued its success in moving horses between states when Soul Star ($4) won a Class 2 Handicap (1200m).

Soul Star had been racing in NSW after earlier winning in Melbourne, and was having her first Queensland start.

Foxpack ($7.50) lived up to a strong recent trial when she scored first up in the Class 4 Handicap (1110m).

She was beaten a nose by stakes horse Scathing in the Doomben trial.
