Favourite punters had to do it the hard way at Flemington on Saturday and that was the case as well at Warwick Farm. But in Sydney, a couple of the favourites had no luck at all during a crucial stage in the straight.
Overall, it was a superb day of racing in Western Sydney and a couple of up and coming gallopers put their hand up for the big races in the Autumn.
Race One: Co-Wyn Building Handicap 2400m
FORGIVE:
Diamond Jim did too much work early on in the race and was entitled to weaken out of it. Back up on him next time.
FORGET:
Sean Baile Mor had things to suit here but she was very disappointing in the run home. Maybe needs to go back home because she won’t be winning races in Sydney.
FOLLOW:
Mangaroa Flyer will be a decent horse next prep. He’ll be sure to win a Listed race or two in the Winter.
Race Two: Widden Stakes 1100m
FORGIVE:
Hussousa will be winning either the Sires Produce or Champagne. Clearly looking for more ground.
FORGET:
Hard to say given we don’t know much about the unplaced runners.
FOLLOW:
She was heavily in the red, but Driefontein missed the kick, used plenty of petrol to take up a spot and really had no right to win. Only the top class horses can win in that situation and she did.
Race Three: Canonbury Stakes 1100m
FORGIVE:
Can’t say anything here. The unplaced runners were just outclassed.
FORGET:
Rise To The Top. His form from the Spring has to be suspect given he has put in two shockers this time in.
FOLLOW:
First three across the line all have high quality ability, especially Shelford. Huge effort on debut to go within a lip of Raceway.
Race Four: Comfort Inn Hunts Liverpool Handicap 1600m
FORGIVE:
No excuses for the beaten brigade. The winner sat wide no cover and still won.
FORGET:
Kinnersley produced a great first up win, but his two starts since have been poor. Wait until Nash jumps back on perhaps.
FOLLOW:
Sandberg was weaving his way through late and hit the line nicely. Look for him at 2000m+
Race Five: NSW Thoroughbred Breeders Classic 1200m
FORGIVE:
Red Tracer sat wide throughout and her toughness was very evident late. Big return from her and she deserves a Group One win.
FORGET:
Montana Flyer should just be regarded as a ‘pacemaker’ for More Joyous because that’s what she is good for.
FOLLOW:
Beaded was very unlucky in the straight and should have won. Surely a Group One is hers this prep?
Race Six: Royal Sovereign Stakes 1200m
FORGIVE:
Another race where they had their chance due to a nice tempo set by Moment Of Change.
FORGET:
King Saul was pretty plain here. He’d want to improve immediately if he is going to challenge the first four across the line here.
FOLLOW:
If Rekindled Alliance doesn’t win a race this prep then I’ll turn it up. Huge return from the Arrowfield youngster and he could be three-year-old colt to follow in the Autumn.
Race Seven: Light Fingers Stakes 1200m
FORGIVE:
Emmalene had no choice but to go back from the barrier. She needed luck and didn’t get it. Keep an eye on her.
FORGET:
She missed the kick again, but Karuta Queen was disappointing here. Prepared to just watch her now.
FOLLOW:
Streama is right on track for the Doncaster Mile after a brilliant return. She is going to be heck of a filly this preparation and everything she contests, she’ll go very close to winning.
Race Eight: Fernwood Liverpool Handicap 1300m
FORGIVE:
Hood went too hard in front and was entitled to tire late. Just needs to relax more and he’ll be winning races.
FORGET:
Stratford had the gun run, but didn’t fire at all. He is officially a fresh horse who struggles beyond 1200m.
FOLLOW:
Brayroan was resuming and the stayer really caught the eye when flahsing home on the rail. Don’t be surprised to see him snare a race during the Carnival.
