I know she carried 56kg less than her rivals, but the run of GRAND PALAZZO (All Too Hard – Palazzo Pitti) was astonishing.
As the gates sprung open in her Wyong maiden today, Grand Palazzo reared.
So high in fact that jockey Sam Clipperton couldnโt hang on and he crashed to the turf.
By the time she was back down on all fours the field was 15 lengths in front of her and she only gingerly chased at first.
Then she wanted to catch them.
After being the best part of 20 lengths from the second last horse after 200m she said to herself, bugger this, I want to run today.
And stride by stride she picked them up.
She caught the field as they turned for home, then cleverly weaved her way between runners crossing in 4th but a long neck behind 2nd and only 4 lengths from the winner.
Grand Palazzo is a maiden and as this was counted as a start she is now 6 starts into a career with just one placing to her name.
She was backed in this race today too. She firmed from $11 into $7.
I think Iโll be on her next start.
Watch: filly makes up 15 lengths after rearing at start.
