Ben Melham has been charged by Racing Victoria stewards over his handling of the Dean Binaisse-trained Numen Lumen at Mornington on Monday.
Melham was charged for failing to improve his position on two separate occasions over the last 800 metres of the Ted Bull Funerals Hcp (1223m).
Stewards stated Melham failed to improve his position leaving the 800m when he had ample opportunity to do so when racing to the inside of Heavenly Dreams, and at the entrance to the straight when he failed to improve to the inside of Naringaling.
Numen Lumen was backed from $2.60 to start the $2.15 favourite and finished third, beaten 1-1/4 lengths.
The matter was adjourned and will be reconvened on Thursday at the Racing Victoria offices.
