Record-breaking New Zealand apprentice James McDonald will showcase his talents in Sydney this weekend before heading to Asia next week to compete in the Group One Singapore Derby.
The in-demand McDonald, who last week became the first rider to win 200 races in a New Zealand season, has been invited by expatriate New Zealander Laurie Laxon to ride Martial Art in the Singapore Derby at Kranji on July 17.
The 19-year-old has been granted a two-day licence by the Singapore Turf Club so he can also take rides at the July 15 meeting, the club said on its website.
McDonald won his first Australian Group One on Scarlett Lady in last month’s Queensland Oaks and heads to Sydney this weekend for seven rides at Randwick.
