Trainer Gerald Ryan has purchased the first $1 million lot on the opening day of the Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney.
Ryan paid $1 million for Lot 35, a Redoute’s Choice three-quarter sister to the talented Rothesay out of the mare Schiaparelli.
Ryan trained Rothesay throughout his racing career which netted four wins from nine starts including the Group Two Queensland Guineas and Group Three Lord Mayors Cup.
He was retired after suffering a second bleeding attack and will stand at Glenlogan Stud this spring.
The Rosehill trainer also prepares the Commands three quarter-sister La Parisienne and the two-year-old full sister to Rothesay, Fast Shanti.
“I bought Rothesay as a yearling, the three-quarter sister by Commands (La Parisienne), I train the three-quarter sister from last year (Fast Shanti) and I reckon she’s the best one of the lot of them,” Ryan said.
“As a type at the same age at the sales I reckon she’s the best of the lot of them.”
“Sound, correct, great pedigree, she’s only going to improve.”
Ryan trains the $1.9 million Easter sale topper from last year, God Speed.
