That old saying ‘women handle pain better than men’ is put to the test at Wagga today on Day 2 of the Wagga Gold Cup carnival.
A mare will be burdened with a staggering 65kg in her handicap race…with no apprentice allowance to offset the whopping impost, and I think she will bolt in.
The mare is GOT YOUR SIX (Snitzel-Nutkin) and she has been well tried overnight firming from $4 to $3.50.
Certainly yesterday’s win at Cairns by the brilliant North Queenslander THE HARROVIAN (Fastnet Rock-Harrow) gives those who like the mare today, a shot in the arm.
The Harrovian carried 67kg to win over 1400m in a stunning 1.22.54 taking his recent record to 9 wins from past 11 starts, the last 6 on the bounce.
Surely he must be tried in town soon. He won the Townsville Cup and the Cairns Cup last year.
Anyway Got Your Six runs in race 5 the BM 66 Queen Of The South worth $68,000 over 1400m at Wagga – on what is a Heavy 9!
The wet track just makes her task even harder. Especially as she has never won on a slow or heavy track despite 6 tries.
Last start she raced at Randwick and carried 59.5kg, finishing 3rd again over 1400m after leading them up.
The run prior to that she carried 57kg to easily win the Muswellbrook Tiara over 1450m from AESOP’S FABLE who has since won.
Got Your Six is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. She spots the bottom weight TEARFUL KITTY a massive 11.5kg.
It’s a pretty fair ask of any horse.
Not sure if it’s a record weight for a mare in a TAB race nut I sure cant recall seeing 65kg without an apprentice allowance.
PalmerBet has her at $3.00.
