King Of Light is the current favourite for the WA Guineas

One of the feature races at Ascot this Saturday is the WA Guineas (1600m), where the winner will get automatic entry into the Northerly in two weeks time.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 WA Guineas.

2025 WA Guineas Runner Preview:

1.King Of Light: King Of Light is a good horse, I am not denying that. But is he the superstar that some are making him out to be? Thought he was given a 12/10 by Pike in the Fairetha, was fence in run and blessed with the path he got. Plum sit again…but just a slight query at him running a strong mile.

2.Mardusa: Solid effort in the Fairetha but suspect this race will be won forward of midfield so I can’t see him threatening unless he is ridden with intent.

3.Heeza Phoenix: Thought he had every chance in the Fairetha and the extra 200m is going to see him out so I can’t have him.

4.Rock Fest: I am very keen on Rock Fest. Most of these come through the Fairetha and I thought he was the clear eye catcher from off speed when third to King Of Light. He is the one that I think can win this and measure up in the Northerly. He’ll need luck from the gate but if he gets it, he is the one for me, and clearly.

5.Saam Time Lucky: Got a beaut run in transit and made a mess of them at Belmont last Wednesday. This looks harder and although has a kind map, I just think he lacks the class/quality.

6.Statewide: Sneaky first four chance. Too far back, never a factor in the Fairetha. Has a gate to settle much closer in the run and I think 1600m will be fine for him.

7.Ruben’s Ceilling: Led everywhere bar the final few strides at the track/distance two weeks ago. He’ll give a good sight but think he lacks the class/quality.

8.My Authoritah: Ran down the track in the same rac that Ruben’s Ceilling contested. Nice horse though for maybe 2000m+ next year in the Autumn/Winter.

9.Deltason: I’ve always had time for this horse and thought he could be a Guineas contender but he was plain in the Fairetha so he goes through to the keeper.

10.Buthelezi: Buthelezi is the left field option. Three weeks between runs since a win over 1500m here, sitting wide no cover throughout against the older horses but he made a mess of them late in a dominant display. Tricky draw again, but he has the talent to measure up.

11.Hasani: Ran fourth in the same race as Ruben’s Ceilling. He just lacks change up speed and will be better over further.

12.Hard Solo: Sneaky good run last Saturday in the Placid Ark but this looks a bridge too far.

13.Ladies Pro: She’s going to be the WA Oaks horse in the Autumn. Love her, but she’s not ready for this.

2025 WA Guineas $100 Betting Strategy:

2025 WA Guineas Speed Map

I don’t see much early toe here. I think Ruben’s Ceilling can lead, and in turn given Buthelezi the perfect drag across. Heeza Phoenix led in the Fairetha but likely opts for cover to try and run the mile. Saam Time Lucky could settle in the box seat maybe, though King Of Light will push up from the inside draw. Do they ride Rock Fest cold or ride with intent?
