1. Logan Street Lion: Best horse in the race, by a mile…but 60kg at 2000m in a truly run race…the query is there, a genuin query, that he’ll be weak late.

2. Mr Maestro: He looks to have been set for the race. Good late against the race shape last Saturday over the mile here, making up headway from off speed. He’ll eat up 2000m and I think the lead is that Ryan Wiggins is booked.

3. Third Realm: He was okay late last Saturday over the mile here but for mine, just don’t think he’s going well enough.

4. Alcyone: Just whacked late in the Mackay Cup and needs it easier.

5. Rogue Bear: Looks to be sneaky flying and despite the stable switch, he is one of the leading contenders because he’ll be strong late and brings strong form lines.

6. Andalus: Ordinary in the Mackay Cup and needs to improve sharply.

7. Beau Rain: Loved the way he knuckled down to win over the mile here last Saturday. But, the query is 2000m. Not sold on him running it out.

8. Kipling’s Journey: Did work on speed in the Mackay Cup last time and was brave, just knocking up late. If he finds the front and gets a cheap furlong, he’ll be hard to get past.

9. Quothquan: He was very good without winning in the Mackay Cup and I am convinced he is flying but that is the story of this prep. He can win without me.

10. Sir Grace: Had the perfect run in the Mackay Cup but was no match for Hype. Looks to land in a plum spot but just find him a risk at 2000m.

11. Solar Apex: I thought he was okay late behind Beau Rain but the draw pretty mcuh seals his fate.

12. Smart Legend: Loved the way he let down from off speed to win the Winter Cup three weeks ago, the main lead up for the track. Leading contender.

13. Acclimatise: Solid on speed in defeat last week behind Beau Rain but just not sure he has the class.

14. Fortified: Battling. Pass.

15. Tambo’s Justice: Had every chance in the Winter Cup but just failed at 2000m and suspect that is the case here.

16. Dillinger: Did work on speed out wide behind Beau Rain and can’t see him improving.
