Gringotts is the current favourite in The Ingham Stakes this weekend

The feature race at Randwick this Saturday is The Ingham (1600m), headlined by Group 1 winner Gringotts, who has to carry topweight and come from a wide barrier.

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 The Ingham.

2025 The Ingham Runner Preview:

1. Gringotts: Gringotts… what a star he is. He was in the worst ground in The Gong, he had to lump 61kg… and he still made a mess of them in an outstanding performance. He failed in this race last year but that was at the end of a long prep, whereas this time in, I don’t think it’s been as brutal for him. Has to be given serious respect.

2. Duke De Sessa: The each way bet here, if the forecast is right, is this guy. Caulfield Cup winner from last year who was enormous when resuming in The Gong, getting off speed and was held up at times but loved the way he closed off behind Gringotts. If the forecast is right and this track is wet, he’ll be strong and now fitter, I’m hoping he can be ridden with more intent.

3. Estadio Mestalla: Ridden with intent in The Gong and tried his guts out but just couldn’t quite get the win when second to Gringotts. Good racing style, hard fit, he’ll be around the mark and is a threat.

4. Robusto: Was keen on him running well in the Festival but gee I thought he was plain and I can’t see him being a threat.

5. Victoria Road: Ambulance a good chance of beating him home.

6. Darnation: Sneaky good run from the back in The Hunter behind Coal Crusher. I reckon she has talent but this might be too much too soon.

7. Arctic Glamour: Rock hard track, she’d be a live chance. But if we get the wet track as forecast, I’d be treating her as a scratching.

8. Territory Express: He was okay in The Gong but needs to improve too much.

9. Democracy Manifest: His better days look behind him.

10. Matusalem: Matusalem is in with a shout for Chris Waller after racing in The Big Dance. He got a mile out of his ground but really liked the way he closed late in defeat behind Gringotts. Staying at the mile is interesting because I was expecting 2000m next.

11. Rise At Dawn: He loves the mile and has been freshened since a game run in the Five Diamonds. Lands in a good spot and will fight all day… just not sure he has the class to win.

12. Loch Eagle: He’s a crazy price. Loved his finale in The Gong and he’s a proven Randwick miler on wet ground. Needs luck but a win wouldn’t shock.

13. Yorkshire: Total forgive in The Hunter then led throughout to win the Festival. Better when ridden with a sit but seems short enough for a horse who hasnโ€™t done a great deal.

14. Tavi Time: Can bob up at times but I’ve had enough of him.

15. Steparty: Talented horse, far from disgraced in the Cranbourne Cup, but needs it dry and easier.

16. Amor Victorious: Faced mission impossible in The Gong trying to lead throughout. Gave a decent sight but was beaten on the turn and struggled in the conditions. Trialled well prior and I’m not dismissing him.

17. Melody Again: Flying mare but needs it dry. Any rain and she’ll struggle.

18. Port Lockroy: SCR

19. You Wahng: Sneaky flying this girl but reckon she may need this run en route to 2000m.

20. Sabaj: Love him as a horse… but too much to do here. Needs an all-time ride from Beau and not sure he’ll handle wet ground.

21. Persian Spirit (First Emergency): SCR

22. Enxuto (Second Emergency): The price gap between he and Sabaj is too big. I thought Patty Moloney slaughtered this horse in the Cranbourne Cup โ€” a half decent ride and he wins. If he gets a run, he’s a knockout hope.

23. Snitzanova (Third Emergency): SCR

24. Kintyre (Fourth Emergency): SCR

The Ingham Stakes Odds

2025 The Ingham Speed Map

Amor Victorious led in The Gong so I suspect he takes it up. Rise At Dawn likes to settle handy while drawn out wide, Gringotts has no other option for Nash other than to roll forward. Robusto, Duke De Sessa, Estadio Mestalla and Yorkshire will likely settle handy.
