We take a look a today’s The Golden Eagle at Randwick which looks to be a good betting race with a wide open field to compete. Take a look at our The Golden Eagle betting tips and horse previews for each of the runners in the race.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Golden Eagle.
2025 Golden Eagle Runner Preview:
1. Evaporate: He tried his absolute guts out in the Toorak but just couldn’t quite get past Transatlantic in a driving go. That horse spanked them last weekend, so the form has been ticked off and I think back to 1500m from the mile is ideal, plus gets Nash. He commands respect.
2. Feroce: He is a Group l winner at the mile, but I don’t think he runs 1600m. Not at this level anyway. If he was mine, I’d focus on 1200m/1400m races.
3. Linebacker: Arrogant win in the Silver Eagle, but I think he was very much flattered. Sitting wide was no disadvantage and there were a few in behind who were unlucky. He’s a good horse, but I can’t have him as second favourite.
4. Sepals: The ride got him the Rupert Clarke win and yes, not much went right in the Toorak, but he was still pretty plain I thought. I can’t entertain him as a winning chance.
5. Willydoit: Didn’t mind his finale in the Alan Brown, which followed an eye catching first up effort. Sneaky flying this horse. But just not sure he can give them a start and beat them. He’ll need a good ride and a drag into the race. But, he’ll get good speed in front to sit off.
6. Fully Lit: Flying this horse. Had on speed control in the Epsom and gave a cheeky sight from the front but just had no answers for Autumn Glow. Won’t get that sort of control this time around, can’t have him.
7. Depth Of Character: I’d rather speck this guy at $81+ than back Linebacker. He was one of many that had zero luck in the Silver Eagle and pretty much went around like a barrier trial. Maps to do no work, I can include him in wider exotics.
8. Lord Penman: Too much too soon maybe for Lord Penman but he is a good horse. He was well held by Linebacker in the Silver Eagle but he kept chasing and kept finding the line in a really good effort in defeat. He’ll be strong at the end of 1500m and Waller in a Grand Final…commands respect.
9. Mayfair: Another that didn’t have much luck in the Silver Eagle but did have luck in getting clear late and finding the line. Not up to these though I suspect.
10. Shangri La Spring: Didn’t do a bad job in the Silver Eagle but he looks outclassed.
11. Cristal Clear: Flying but needs it much easier.
12. Panja Tower: Panja Tower is an elite horse from Japan that commands respect. He has built an impressive record in the land of the rising sun, winning four of six and each win, he has looked elite the way he has put them away. From all reports he has handled Canterbury well, he’s settled in…he’ll run a big race.
13. Seagulls Eleven: Very wary of this UK raider. He has solid form lines around him and I think the 1500m is fine for him. From all reports, has settled into Canterbury nicely, he maps to get a soft run in transit…a win wouldn’t be a total shock.
14. Autumn Glow: I can’t tip against Autumn Glow but do I want to back her at the shorts? No. But she is top seed after making it 7/7 in the Epsom. She looked in trouble when Fully Lit sprinted but she ran through the pain barrier, picked up, surged and was dynamic in the run to the line. Fast run 1500m looks perfect, she’ll sit off the good speed and be extremely hard to hold out.
15. Perfumist: Smashed the clock and then some two back before a game second in the Angst to Idle Flyer. Looks the leader and will give a good sight. Last 200m will be her issue.
16. Modella: Modella wouldn’t have looked out of place in The Invitation last Saturday so with that in mind, I think she is an outside first four hope. Big win from her in the Midway three weeks ago, giving them a start and a beating in an electric performance. If within range, she can pinch decent prizemoney.
17. Eclair Encore: SCR

They’re going to go quick if they want to cross Perfumist from the inside. That said, there is plenty of speed drawn wide, with Cristal Clear, Fully Lit and Shangri La Spring pushing forward from wide gates.
