Country Cup racing continues this Sunday, with the Terang Cup (2150m) attracting a strong field.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Terang Cup.
2025 Terang Cup Runner Preview:
1. Normandy Bridge: He is the best horse in the race and I think at the odds, you have to take a chance on him. The query is what his path is this time in because he is a talented stayer, but he’s had a couple of jumps trials. Is that to sharpen him up? Or is he going jumping this prep? Either way, $15+, that is too big of a price for mine.
2. Hit The Road Jack: He showed promise over the jumps towards the end of last season and resumes here, I dare say with eyes towards the Warrnambool Cup and then jumping. He is first up and has looked to trial/jumpout well for the return. He’ll be around the mark.
3. Claidheamh Mor: Just looked in need of the run in the Bairnsdale Cup. Better set up here…but I just reckon this is a run that will top him off for Warrnambool.
4. Mystery Island: Comes back to 2150m after racing over 2400m at Caulfield when back in the small field and just battled late. He’s a definite improver here and should be respected.
5. Independent Road: Tough campaigner…just finding it hard to win so he goes through to the keeper.
6. Farag: He’s getting ready for the jumps season so he’s not a winning prospect for me.
7. Ziryab: Ziryab will jump on the bunny and take running down. He ran a few weeks back in the Yarra Valley Cup when attempting to lead throughout and gave a strong sight from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through, run down late. Front end control, he’ll run well.
8. Rich Champagne: She is absolutely flying this time in and should land in a plum spot from the draw. Her best is good enough to be a threat…just a query on whether she has the class factor to properly measure up.
9. Enchanted Elle: Former Kiwi who has looked limited so can’t entertain her.
10. Early Warning: Trip will be no issue but the class factor is a concern, especially from a tricky draw with a tricky map.
11. Any Luck: Tough mare that is racing well but not for me.
12. Stardom Awaits: Rises big time in grade/depth but was a real eye catcher at Ballarat last time, closing with purpose from the back. Whether they want to this for the Warrnambool Cup, or using this as a prep run for the 70 over 2300m during the Carnival, not sure…but he looks progressive.

Ziryab should get front end control here from the wide gate and lead comfortably. Claidheamh Mor is fitter and loves to roll on speed, but perhaps with eyes on the Warrnambool Cup, they won’t go as hard. Rich Champage and Independent Road should hold forward spots.
