2023 Tatts Tiara Speed Map
Capacity field but there is no speed on paper. Lady Of Honour looks your leader, or she takes a sit behind Electric Girl. Outside that, you are hard pressed to find speed, with maybe Mirra Vision sliding across from out wide.
2023 Tatts Tiara Runner Preview:
1. Electric Girl: Think she’s the best at a big price given she is one of the lone speed runners engaged. Team Hawkes trained mare that resumes, having not raced since the All Aged when down the track on wet ground in a brutally run race won by Giga Kick. Spelled with this race in mind and the trial to get ready was a very good piece of work. Dry ground, fresh at 1400m, Mares grade, lands on speed, she’ll take running down.
2. Kiku: Ran well in this race last year and looks to be ticking along nicely towards it again. She ran second to Foxy Frida in the mile race from three weeks ago and I thought she closed her race off with purpose. Reckon 1600m is her go in life more so than 1400m but if it’s a truly run 1400m, look for her to launch late.
3. Palaisipan: Is she overpriced? I am saying yes. Yes, ran fourth in the Stradbroke, but did no work in the run in a race where they stacked/racked midrace, so IMO she was a tad flattered to run fourth. Of those near the top of the market, she is the one I am most keen to take on.
4. Foxy Frida: Ripping mare. Wasn’t the best of rides from Billy over the mile last time but the mare didn’t need a good ride because she had panels on them and despite doing more work than others, she was far too good. Back to 1400m I find interesting but she’ll be stronger than most late, provided the tempo is genuine.
5. Chain Of Lightning: Chain Of Lightning is a ripping mare for Peter Moody. Ran a beauty behind Ruthless Dame in the Sangster at Morphettville before going to the Stradbroke where she was massive in defeat from the wide gate, sitting wide no cover for the trip and sticking on very well in defeat behind Think About It. If there is petrol left in the tank, she rates highly, clearly.
6. Roots: Roots looks like she has been set for the race and a truly run 1400m should be right up her alley. She resumed two weeks back in the Dane Ripper where J Mac rode her cold and I thought she found the line quite well late without threatening behind Comrade Rosa. Has the potential to settle much closer and still be effective late.
7. Mirra Vision: Quality mare for Team Snowden that comes here second up off the back of the Dane Ripper where she attempted to lead throughout and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off behind Comrade Rosa. I reckon with a bunny to chase, she’ll be better off and has the quality to measure up.
8. Chaillot: A mare who is very sharp when racing on the fresh side. Four weeks between runs since contesting the Kingsford Smith where she got a suck run behind the speed before angling clear and found the line strongly when beaten just under two lengths by Think About It. That form clearly reads well for this, especially back to Mares grade.
9. Lady Of Honour: On the seven day back up after winning the Eye Liner last Saturday. Sat on speed and was there to be run down but she found under Mallyon and lifted late to win. That form, I think, will turn out to be suspect and not measure up here.
10. Excelida: Team Hayes mare that is five weeks between runs since contesting the BRC Sprint where she got back to near last in the run and failed to make up any real headway behind Surf Dancer. Back to Mares grade and onto a bigger track, her absolute best is good enough to be dangerous at a big price.
11. Comrade Rosa: She is example 1A of how a change of scenery can work wonders for a horse. In Sydney, she was a benchmark 70 horse. Now with Tony Gollan, several runs later, she is a multiple Stakes winner and is a legitimate Group l contender. Got the peach run in both the Helen Coughlan and Dane Ripper but she still had to take advantage of it and she did. Not penning her.
12. Charmmebaby: If you want one to include in wider exotics, this is the mare. She ran in the Wayne Wilson where they rode her quite warm on speed and it left her without much left for the straight, finishing down the track behind a nice horse, a really nice horse in Antino. Reckon back to 1400m and a more patient steer, she’s dangerous.
13. She’s All Class: Not the best of winning records but she is a talented mare when right. Big odds in the Dane Ripper two weeks ago but you really had to like the way she found the line late in the piece without threatening, finishing fourth to Comrade Rosa. That was her first run in a month so she has room for improvement and I think with a conservative ride, 1400m will be okay. One for exotics.
14. Tycoon Evie: The start of her life under Team Snowden was very promising with a couple of blacktype placings but she was pretty plain in the Dane Ripper and I can’t see her improving enough to measure up against these.
15. Ruthless Dame: Somewhat of an iron filly this girl. Sangster winner that was freshened up with the Stradbroke in mind as next start and I thought she worked home with real purpose nearer the inside behind Think About It. Fitter, back to Mares grade, she only runs well provided there is petrol left in the tank.
16. Opal Ridge: I think it’ll be a case of good luck beating Opal Ridge. Should have won the Dane Ripper two weeks ago but unfortunately she got caught wide no cover for the trip and that sealed her fate in winning. Credit to her, she kept finding the line and only just missed out on picking up Comrade Rosa. I think she’ll put this Group l away and confirm her spot for The Everest.
17. Revolutionary Miss: She is a very capable filly when right. Used the Dane Ripper to tune up for this, sitting wide throughout and failing to get involved, but that said, she was only beaten 1.7L by Comrade Rosa. Think she’ll love a truly run 1400m and is a definite knockout chance at a price.
18. Brookspire (First Emergency): She is a mare I am very wary of given she can run well in these Mares races. Market said she’d need the run in the Helen Coughlan and ran accordingly behind Comrade Rosa. Kept on ice with this race in mind and her tick over trial at Deagon was a pretty good piece of work. Not penning her.
19. Salateen (Second Emergency): Sat on speed and just felt the pinch late in the Dane Ripper. I think she’s a much better horse with a bunny to chase but this looks a bridge too far.
20. More Prophets (Third Emergency): Got too far back in the Dane Ripper and was never a threat, finishing down the track behind Comrade Rosa. Draws to get a more economical run in transit and will be strong at the end. If she gets a run, include in exotics.
21. Essonne (Fourth Emergency): SCRATCHED
22. Aureus Angel (Fifth Emergency): She should be a $15 chance. Her run in the Dane Ripper was enormous from the back, clocking some of the better late splits of the meeting. But, highly doubt she gets a run.
