Feature of the day sees the older horses in the spotlight over the sprinting trip. A case can be made for several runners in the field and in early better (Thursday PM), Sportsbet has Satin Shoes $3.00 favourite.

1. EAGLE FALLS
The David Hayes 7yo returned to racing with a sixth (beaten 4.1) at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago. He has won the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate second up in 2011 and was second up again when he had no luck in the this year’s version of the same race. He has only ventured to Sydney once previously, finishing 11th (beaten 4.1) in the Canterbury Classic behind More Joyous. The drier the track, the better.
Odds: $13.00
2. SKYTRAIN
Has had six runs this time for the one win, two starts back. That was a Rosehill Open were he started 2/1 favourite and had every chance in the run. His most recent start he had to lug 62kg for a third at Canterbury behind the promising Said Com (beaten 2.6). Does like this track – only missed a place twice in 13 starts.
Odds: $5.50
3. SATIN SHOES
Flying Spur mare who sports a very good first up record of three wins from four starts and from barrier one, will expect her be prominent throughout. Her two starts over this track and trip have resulted in a win (Group Two Silver Slipper) and a close up second to smart sprinter Rain Affair last prep. Has had the one barrier trial in preparation for this return – a comfortably second on 3rd August.
Odds: $3.00
4. SEE THE WORLD
Has been a model of consistency this prep winning three of his past five including the Listed Takeover Target and, at his most recent start, the Winter Stakes. He’ll get back from his inside draw but is fit and on his current form, must be considered among the leading chances.
Odds: $4.00
5. SAINTHOOD
A big ask for this bloke first up given that he has had only the one start (finishing last in the G3 Southern Cross) since May 2011. To find his last win, you have to go back to the Wagga Gold Cup May 2010. Draws the outside gate.
Odds: $21.00
6. NIGHTOFTHEGENERAL
Another that has been sparingly raced in recent times (four starts since July 2010). His most recent start was a first up effort, finishing ninth, beaten five lenghts in a Benchmark 90 at Warwick Farm three weeks back. Will probably push forward from the inside draw but a win would surprise.
Odds: $67.00
7. LA REMLAP
The half sister to Manawanui returns to racing after a solid but winless prep earlier in the year. In fact, it’s been twelve starts since the Joe Pride mare has visited the winner’s stall. First up this prep, she seem to have her chance in the run but could only manage to finish sixth (beaten 3.4) behind I Get Around at Warwick Farm three weeks back. Second up record reads; two seconds from four starts.
Odds: $17.00
8. SOCIAL RANK
Speedy gelding by Stratum who will be the likely leader. Has had two barrier trails over the space of the past few weeks (winner the latest) so can assume that he has been in work for a while and may very well be set for a race like this for up. Progressed up the grades last prep winning four from six and produces his best on dry ground.
Odds: $8.50
9. MRS. ONASSIS
Well bred 5yo mare from the Gerald Ryan yard who hasn’t raced since finishing sixth (beaten 3.5) in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1100m) in January this year. Has won five from her twelve starts and has been prepared for her return with a winning barrier trial on the 3rd August.
Odds: $8.50
OVERVIEW:
With Social Rank and possibly Nightofthegeneral leading the field at a good clip, Satin Shoes from her inside draw should get a lovely run in transit just off the pace. Combine this with her record first up and this trip, and she’s the deserved favourite. See the World is hard fit and in form – qualities that not all runners have in this race and expect him to be finishing hard again. Social Rank to round out the placings. We haven’t raced at Rosehill for a few weeks and the rail will be out 6 metres so any track bias will have presented itself by now. Should it favour the front runners expect the current quote of $8.50 to trim up.
