After a big weekend of racing at Ascot last week that saw the running of several Group Races including the G1 Kingston Town Classic, only the one Group race on today’s card that sees a small field participating with Hard Ball Get taking on four fillies.

1. HARD BALL GET – W Pike (3)
Off two very good wins earlier in the year, he was sent out as even money favourite when resuming in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes a fortnight ago. Found the promising filly Miss Bux to good for him then and finished second, beaten a length. Can only be better for that run and meets Miss Bux 1kg better at the weights.
2. FUDDLE DEE DUDDLE – G Smith (5)
She won the G3 Skyy Vodka Stakes three starts back over a mile and followed that up with an unlucky fourth (beaten 1.5 lengths) in the WA Guineas behind Academus. She then jumped in the deep end to contest the G1 Kingston Town Stakes and acquitted herself well, finishing fifth (beaten 2.1 lengths behind Luckygray) last week. She’s in form, rock hard fit but does have to come back form the nine furlongs of last week’s race to 1400m today and that could be cause for concern.
3. MISS SOLIS – J Whiting (1)
Filly by Oratorio who tends to get a long way back in her races but can produce a big finish as evident by her win second up this prep in the Listed Belgravia Stakes. Since that run she’s finished fifth (beaten 3.5) in the Burgess Queen and eleventh (beaten 6.5) in the Skyy Vodka Stakes. Would have to improve on her latest efforts and the pace of this race I don’t think will suit.
4. PASSION CANTATA – C Staples (4)
She’s won her last two starts after finishing a close up seventh behind Fuddle Dee Duddle in the G3 Skyy Vodka Stakes. She’ll roll along up on the pace, her last two wins have been nothing if not solid and she drops nicely in the weights but still find it hard to picture her accounting for a few here.
5. MISS BUX – P Carbery (2)
General Nediym filly who made her debut in a Bunbury Maiden before, at her last start winning, the Listed Placid Ark Stakes, leading all the way.
She won fair and square last time and obviously a filly on the up with untapped potential. No reason why she couldn’t repeat that effort.
SUMMARY
Small field but an interesting race. Miss Bux leads again with Hard Ball Get sitting second. Both should have improvement in them for their last outing and the 1kg advantage Hard Ball Get is afforded this start compared to last, might just be enough to tilt my selection in his favour. Big ask for Fuddle Dee Duddle to back up after last week and wonder if she’ll the two abovementioned runners, a little too slick over this trip.
