1. PRONTO PRONTO – B Melham (7)
Slow start to this preparation but has shown a return to form at his most recent outings including a close up fifth (beaten 1.7) behind Daytona Grey and backed that up last start with a solid win in the Listed Vintage Stakes, leading throughout. Draw awkwardly but as shown at Moonee Valley two starts back, doesn’t necessarily have to lead and off the back of his recent performances, has to be included here.
Odds: $6.50
2. DAYTONA GREY – C Lindop (8)
An Adelaide galloper who had two wins to his name from eight starts in SA before coming across to Victoria at his most recent start and adding win number three with a tough effort at Moonee Valley in Open Class. Had every chance last time and draw a little wide here today.
Odds: $12.00
3. STEEP – M Zahra (11)
Patinack Farm representative lining up for his fifth start and second this prep. Held a forward position last start in the Listed Vintage Stakes before weakening late to finish seventh (beaten 3.4) Better with that run under his belt and won a 1400m Open at Flemington last prep.
Odds: $41.00
4. LIMES – K McEvoy (4)
Darley runner who competed in the Listed Ming Dynasty (beaten 3.8 behind Tatra) and G3 Spring Stakes (beaten 4.6 behind Proisir) before coming to Melbourne at his last start and running a close second to Pronto Pronto in the Vintage Stakes. Sure to get every chance from his draw and will not have had to improve on last start to be in the mix here.
Odds: $4.60
5. MAGNIER – V Duric (6)
A colt by Magnus who chased home the promising Lankan Rupee (who was good again last week behind Snitzerland), before being taken to Ballarat for a soft kill in a Class One which he won, as expected, very comfortably. He’s a promising type that will be in one of the leading chances in this race.
Odds: $3.80
6. CRYSTAL WEB – D Dunn (3)
A half brother to champion 2yo and Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily who sat on the speed in the Vintage Stakes at his last start and finished fifth, beaten 2 lengths. He jumped from 1000m to the 1400m second up last start so expect him to be better for that run and a chance in an open affair.
Odds: $19.00
7. SWIFT SUCCESSION – L Nolen (5)
Peter Moody trained runner who won a RST 72 event at Sandown first up before competing in the Vintage Stakes last start finishing sixth beaten 2.1 lengths. He’ll push forward from his gate and both his wins to date have come on Slow and Heavy tracks.
Odds: $19.00
8. DIVINE MOON – J Bowman (2)
He was scratched from a race on Wednesday to take part here. Has had three starts in Sydney in the lead up to this race, with the most recent being a third (beaten 2.1) in the G2 Stan Fox Stakes behind the smart Kabayan. He jumped to this race from a third in a Kembla Maiden. Stable obviously have a good opinion of him.
Odds: $6.50
9. AL ANEED – G Boss (9)
More Than Ready colt from the Mick Price yard who won a Sale Maiden first up last month before stepping out as 11/8 favourite at Mornington (RST 68) and running fourth of sixth on a Slow track. On his two runs in this prep, hard to include him here.
Odds: $12.00
10. ROYAL RADA – D Oliver (1)
Good effort first up behind Lankan Rupee and Magnier over a 1000m here at Caulfield and was then taken to Bairnsdale for a soft kill but, as 8/11 favourite, wilted late on the Slow track and ran fifth (beaten 1.4) Is better than that effort and back on a firmer surface from a handy draw, is one for the multiple players to include.
Odds: $8.50
11. CLEANSING ALE – (10)
Won a Acton Open back in July before being spelled and returned with a third, coming from back in the field, beaten three lengths in a Class One race. It’ll be a big upset should he win.
Odds: $31.50
OVERVIEW
Most of these competed against each other last start in the Vintage Stakes with not much separating them in the end. It may be a case of who gets the better run and I think that’ll be Limes. From gate four, he should be able to camp on the speed and be in a winning position on the turn. Magnier has showed good signs at both of his two starts this time in and imagine the mile will be very much to his liking. Royal Rada and Divine Moon go in to add value to the multiples.
