Japanese raider Prognosis remains the clear cut favourite in the 2024 Cox Plate but punters have gravitated to star mare Pride Of Jenni who holds over a third of all money on the race with the TAB.
“Progonsis has just come back into $3.40 this morning with gambling sites…we expect he’ll definitely start favourite with the money to come late as he’s arguably the best horse in the race,” TAB trader Mitch Lobina said on Friday morning.
“There was some money across the board that came for Pride Of Jenni on Thursday, so she was $4.60 into $4.20 pretty quickly there.
“Right now TAB punters are getting really stuck into Pride of Jenni, Mr Brightside and Broadsiding, they’re the popular runners.
“It’s not often punters see those three at these prices, so they’re getting stuck into them and I think it’ll be that way up until the jump and especially with the way the favourite (Prognosis) drifting the way that he was.
“Via Sistina is interesting with that mishap this week where she tripped, and they’ve indicated they’ll wait until Saturday before deciding whether to run.
“She was pretty well backed earlier on $5 into $4.40, and if she starts we don’t think she’ll start too much longer as she’s probably the second best horse in the race based off ratings.
“The other three-year-old Evaporate has been pretty comfortable in betting at the $21 mark, as has Docklands at $19, while Kovalica and Royal Patronage have been fairly soft in the betting.”
