Global powerhouse Godolphin have finally managed to secure the Melbourne Cup after many years of trying.
The blue army had three runners in the event with Best Solution, Avilius and Cross Counter and it was the latter that gave them the win, much to the delight of its backers as well as TAB.
One TAB customer walked away with a cool half a million dollars thanks to their $50,000 @ $10 outlay yesterday.
The victory by Cross Counter was also a positive result for TAB’s books as opposed to Marmelo, which would have been horrific.
Kerrin McEvoy timed his run to perfection on the Charlie Appleby-trained runner as he overhauled 2017 Cup favourite Marmelo in the shadows of the post, with A Prince Of Arran ($23) back in third.
Cross Counter was $11 this morning and jumped as a $9 chance but most of the betting activity today centred around Magic Circle and Yucatan. The pair swapped favouritism throughout the day with Yucatan ($5.50-$8-$6 fav) heading the market at the jump.
