The Chris Waller-trained Finche has firmed this afternoon from $9.50 to $8 and is the new TAB favourite for the 2019 Melbourne Cup at Flemington (post time 3pm AEDT).
Finche finished fourth in last year’s Melbourne Cup and his preparation has been strong for this year’s edition.
After winning the Kingston Town Stakes at Randwick on September 21, Finche was runner-up to Kings Will Dream in the TAB Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on October 5 before running fifth in the Caulfield Cup on October 19.
The winner of the Caulfield Cup, Mer De Glace, has eased this afternoon from $6.50 favourite to $8.50 second elect.
Constantinople was the $7 favourite before last Saturday night’s barrier draw and is now on the third line of betting at $9.50.
Other gallopers that have tightened in betting at TAB this afternoon are Il Paradiso ($15 to $13) and Magic Wand ($26 to $19).
