Warwick Farm- Friday, March 27, Weather Fine, Synthetic Track.
Heat Two- Man Of Distinction (1st):
Really impressive trial win by this son of Fastnet Rock for Gai Waterhouse, who debuted with a win at Kembla Grange on February 28. Given a little break and looked really sharp sitting here, settling off a hot speed before peeling out on the turn and going to the line strongly under a hold to win. Keen to see where he goes.
Heat Three- Man Cave (2nd):
Maiden galloper for Gary Portelli who is yet to race in 2015, but he looked good in this trial. He jumped okay, settled second last in the run on the rail before peeling out on the turn and letting down really strongly late under no pressure from Winona Costin to run second, beaten a length. A maiden win is his for sure this time in, and early on.
Heat Six- Mum’s Blessing (1st):
Unraced mare for Joe Pride that was making her first public appearance here, and she looked pretty good. Sat on speed, hung a touch around the home turn, but got balanced up again and went about her business really nicely, getting the job done.
Heat Nine- Ekklestone (1st) and Divine Gift (2nd):
Lovely trial by the winner, who sat off a hot speed set by the runner up before peeling wide on the turn, taking a stride or two to balance back up, but really hit the line with purpose. As for the runner up, with about 200m to go, he mistook the Warwick Farm Pro-Ride track for Warrnambool, leaping over a shadow. Thankfully no harm was done, but before and after that moment, he did look quite good himself on speed.
Heat Ten- Arabian Gold (1st):
Star mare who caught the eye in the Coolmore Classic, and she looks tuned up for the Championships after an impressive trial win here, where she led all the way and was under a really good hold from Chad Schofield. Time was nothing spectacular, but she did it easily, and a mention to Complacent, the 2013 Spring Champion winner. He worked home strongly late.
Heat Fourteen- Crystal Bear (1st):
Unraced colt for Bjorn Baker who was having his second trial. Showed good speed throughout and ended up winning narrowly under hands and heels riding, beating home Pride Of Dubai, who I must say was pretty ordinary. He was under hard riding and was fully ridden out by Bowman, but couldn’t pick up the winner and was well held. This trial reminds me of Paceman a few weeks back before he failed badly at his next start. Not good signs heading forward towards the Sires’, but the winner was impressive.
