Randwick- Monday, February 23: Weather Fine, Track Soft 5.
Heat Three- Sweet Idea (1st):
Iron mare of Australian racing who was making her first public appearance since a brave second to Bonaria in the Myer Classic. She jumped well from the gates under Winona Costin, led comfortably with Rubick on her outside and that pair went 1-2 the whole way, with Sweet Idea, under pressure, holding on to win. Exceptional fresh record and will take a power of beating where ever she resumes.
Heat Six- Hanika (2nd):
Unraced Godolphin youngster who was making her first public appearance here. Sat off them early on, then coming to the turn and early on in the straight James McDonald was hard at work on her and she was seemingly doing nothing, but she picked up late and was excellent through the line. Not a first tier two year old, but one to keep an eye on.
Heat Seven- Mine Two (1st):
Really liked the way this filly went about her trial. She sat just off the speed in the run before Brenton Avdulla peeled her out on the turn. He had the filly under a good hold all the way up the straight and grabbed the win right on the peg. She has some good form around her, and looks to have come back in outstanding order. Not a Golden Slipper horse, but definitely could pick up a second tier stakes race during the Carnival.
Heat Ten- Dr Sykes (4th):
Won a trial here on February 10 in good style, and again has caught the eye here. He got a long way back in the run behind the two tearaway leaders and was off the bit most of the way, but he made up a significant amount of ground late to run fourth, beaten just over two lengths. Keen to back him first up where ever he goes.
Heat Twelve- Rekindled Power (5th):
Lovely looking colt who showed good promise towards the end of the Spring, and looks to have come back in great order judging by the way he trialled here. He sat last in the run on the back of the eventual winner Music Magnate. Coming to the turn James McDonald peeled him to the extreme outside, under no pressure. Music Magnate, a sprinter, kicked away and eventually won, but Rekindled Power idled to the line under a really good hold. A level below the top three year olds, but there are plenty of options for him.
Heat Thirteen- Vancouver (1st):
Didn’t run on Saturday, but if he did…he would have beaten Headwater comfortably. This was an outstanding trial win, sitting on speed outside Intrusion, quickly putting that horse away 250m out and sprinted clear late under no real pressure from Tim Clark. He wasn’t the most impressive two year old this morning, but still looked very classy and is one of the hardest to beat in the Golden Slipper.
Heat Sixteen- English (1st):
Clearly the best for the morning. Jumped brilliantly from the gates, led and just gave nothing else a look in, winning by over five lengths and running the clear fastest time for the two year olds this morning. She put up an amazing performance to win on debut at Kembla, and looks to have come on big time since. Really surprised that $51 is on offer for her in regards to the Golden Slipper, because based on what I saw here, she should be $10 chance. Outstanding trial.
