Gosford Gold Cup 2026 Runner Preview:
1. Asterix: On one hand, he was impressive in the JRA Plate triumph. But, he was fence in run, did no work and bloused them late, plus form out of the race looks rather suspect.
2. Bois D’Argent: Bois D’Argent was terrible in the Neville Sellwood but I thought the track may have been a bit shifty for him and he didn’t really let down. Much better suited here, trial last week was strong, not dismissing him.
3. Doctor Askar: He looks limited. Pass for me.
4. Land Legend: If he runs here, he is a clear threat because I do think Maher has him flying. But, I do think he may run instead at Caulfield.
5. Maison Louis: Didn’t do a bad job when resuming at Randwick and is suited up in trip…just whether he needs another run or not.
6. Sayedaty Sadaty: Either he or Land Legend will run here, the other runs at Caulfield, would be my guess. This guy seems to race better the Sydney way and wasn’t too bad first up. Knockout hope.
7. Etna Rosso: Dual accepted, no rider booked…dare say he won’t be running here.
8. Unspoken: Dangerous if he brought his best, but he’s gone like a busted his past two and looks cast.
9. Plymouth: SCR
10. Star Of India: His best is good enough but he was awful in the Wagga Cup. I can’t have him.
11. You Wahng: Looked the winner of the JRA Plate but had no answers for the finale of Asterix. Trip no issue, maps to get a sweet run in transit and be effective late. Commands serious respect.
12. Portland: Portland runs well at a price. He comes through the JRA Plate where he was back and wide. He made up some ground but was never really threatening. Maps to settle much closer, he’ll be strong late and this looks a race well within reach.
13. Touristic: Touristic comes through the JRA Plate. He got back to near last in the run and while he was never threatening, he kept chasing and was pretty good in defeat I thought. He’ll likely spot them a start but be launching at them late in the piece and a win wouldn’t shock.
14. Les Vampires: SCR
15. Sunset Park: Gradually getting towards peak fitness and wasn’t too bad in the JRA Plate. Lands in front I dare say and will run a cheeky race.
16. Zaphod: Think he’s ready to do something but this looks a class too rich.
17. Black Run (First Emergency): Tough campaigner but think this is a level too far.
18. Kind Words (Second Emergency): Loomed at Randwick but just felt the pinch late. Not for me here.
19. Our Gold Hope (Third Emergency): Unlucky behind Rotagila at Randwick but think she may want something easier.
20. Redstone Well (Fourth Emergency): Best is good enough but hasn’t been seen for a long time.
