Last start Turnbull Stakes runner-up Finche has been installed as the new favourite for Saturday’s Caulfield Cup after the market got a bit of a shake-up with two horses pulling out of the race for the $5m feature at Caulfield.
Finche who also heads 2019 Melbourne Cup odds has taken over favouritism on Monday for Saturday’s $5m Caulfield Cup after news broke that both King’s Will Dream and International Raymond Tusk will not run in the race.
Both King’s Will Dream and Raymond Tusk were high up in Caulfield Cup odds prior to the announcement with King’s Will Dream heading to the Cox Plate instead whilst Raymond Tusk’s connections opted to run the horse first-up in Australia in the Melbourne Cup.
Finche now sits at the top of markets at $6.00 but is closely followed by Mer De Glace at $7.00 who started the day as favourite.
The other runners in single figures for the race are Mr Quickie who was disappointing when heavily backed in the Turnbull Stakes and the Lindsay Park import Constantinople.
The final field for the Caulfield Cup will be released on Wednesday after the running of the Coongy Cup with Wolfe and Yulong Prince able to gain a spot in the race if they win.
