The opening race at the Sapphire Coast this afternoon could be historic.
The first two home in the 1600m Mdn Plate could very well be females, trained by female trainers and ridden by female jocks.
And they aren’t even the odds-on fav who will also be ridden by a female!
Both LANGLO GIRL (Pluck-Tango Dancer) and DANCERS OF DELPHI (Monaco Consul-Delphic Dancer) are female racehorses both of whom look to really appreciate the step up to 1600m this afternoon.
Lynda Bundy trains Dancers Of Delphi at Moruya and has employed the services of Melinda Kinny to ride.
Theresa Bateup will ship her filly from her Kembla base to the races today and Jess Taylor has the mount.
Both horses made ground late last start in similar races to just miss.
The favourite is Kayla Nisbet’s mount THINK RUSH (So You Think-So Sydney) who spoils the all-girl affair should he win…being a 5YO gelding and all.
He was 4th here last start in the mud making a lot of ground late.
The changing face of racing is exemplified in this race. Female racehorses have become the dominant gender – look at Winx; Almond Eye; Enable; Black Caviar; Makybe Diva etc over recent years.
More apprentices entering apprentice school are female now and there has been a massive increase over the past four years in woman seeking training licences.
