Esperance Cup 2025 – Field, Odds, Horses, Tips, and Betting Preview

1. Citino: I thought he was brave at Pinjarra behind Stormageddon after being wide no cover throughout. Maps much better this time around and prior efforts were strong enough to say he can threaten here.

2. Uncompromised: He was massive in defeat last time given he lumped the big weight and the winner had 7.5kg less. He’s the key local hope and has to be given some form of respect.

3. Stormageddon: He’s short enough but there is a reason for that. He just looks better than these. Margin was narrow, but the win was dominant at Pinjarra last time and with all the speed in front, I can see him sitting back, peeling wide and rounding them up with ease.

4. Rogues Point: 1200m to 2000m…very strange set up. Not sure he’ll be measuring up.

5. Annihilator: Was solid last time out at Mount Barker, albeit the race was very thin. Much harder here, can’t entertain him.

6. Big Swoop: Strong on speed win to take out the Mount Barker Cup last time. He has the right racing style…but I think there’ll be too much front end pressure for him to handle.

7. Elite Fighter: Think he is racing well but does seem effective as a miler. Unknown at the trip but I say he’ll struggle.

8. Jack In The Black: He ran fourth in that weak Mount Barker race that Annihilator contested. Not here.

9. Magic Reign: He ran fourth in the same race Uncompromised contested. Had his chance and this is much harder. Pass.

10. Nothern Ivy: Identical to Rogues Point. 1200m to 2000m…what is doing? Not here.

11. Passion For War: Led throughout to win the lead up that Uncompromised contested. He led throughout. I don’t think that will be happening here.

12. Prized Jewel: 1300m to 2000m for this guy…just such odd set ups for several runners. Pass.

13. True Chance: He is the one from the Cup lead up I would want the most. Race shape was against him but I really liked the way he closed off in defeat. He’s the one that is a threat if the fav is off his game.

14. Wheatstack Thief: Similar run to True Chance in the Cup lead up, off speed and working to the line well in defeat. But, I just feel True Chance has more to give.

15. Zackariah Beau: Okay at Bunbury last time but he’s very hard to catch.

Really good speed engaged here I feel. Passion For War, Big Swoop, Rogues Point…they look the main three, but out wide, there is several runners who will look to carve over and find a spot, so the tempo will be quite good I suspect.
