Chipping Norton winner Danleigh has been heavily backed in early betting at Sportingbet Australia’s for Saturday’s George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters had settled on the proven Group One performer in a very open betting race.
“Danleigh has been backed from $11 to $9.00 with a series $2000 and $1000 making him our worst result by a long way,†Sullivan said.
“It has been the sheer number of bets rather than a single massive wager that has seen his quote slashed and it isn’t hard to see why punters think he can add another Group One to his resume.
“His record at this track and distance is outstanding and he handles all track conditions which could be an issue with plenty of rain in Sydney this week.
“He is also the inform weight for age performer in a race where a lot of the horses in the market are yet to prove themselves under these conditions.â€
Sullivan said there had been money for a number of other runners in the Ryder but none to the extent of Danleigh.
“The two three year olds, Ilovethiscity and Skilled have been well supported while there has also been money for Coolmore winner and favourite Aloha and the proven miler Dao Dao,†he said.
