The Danny O’Brien trained 2yo Cape Canaveral has been heavily backed to win the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes ahead of his debut in the Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield.
The Starcraft colt has shortened from $21 to $17 for the Diamond with Sportingbet Australia after a series of good bets were placed on him.
“Cape Canaveral has clearly been the best backed runner this week and there are only six horses in front of him in the betting despite the fact he is yet to have a start,†said Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan.
“We took two bets to win $10,000 on Monday and then a bet of $40,000 to $2000 on Tuesday morning and we have now shortened him up to $17.
“He is nominated for the Chairman’s Handicap on Saturday and while the money suggests he will be hard to beat, he will need to be very good to be saluting as it is a hot field.â€
Blue Diamond preview winners Sepoy ($4.40) and One Last Dance ($7.50 Pictured) head Sportingbet’s Blue Diamond market ahead of Anevay and Delago’s Lad who are both $11.
