Royal Randwick hosts a fantastic nine race card this Saturday including three Group 1s, the Epsom Handicap, Flight Stakes and The Metropolitan. MISS FABULASS will start a clear favourite in the Flight Stakes, while the Epsom and Metropolitan appear to have a host of winning chances. We caught up with Palmerbet CEO Grant Palmer to get his thoughts on the Group 1s and see if there have been any major betting moves.
Have there been any betting moves in what looks an open Metropolitan this year? Can you steer punters into a winner?
The Metrop is always a great race and punters this year are going to get a great price if they find the winner. The Chris Waller import, the hurdler HIGH BRIDGE has been backed from $12 into $8 in the best betting move of the race. Has gone two from two in Australia and was carrying 75 kilos plus over the jumps in England earlier this year. The 50 kilos here must feel like nothing and he will have no problems with the trip. BIG DUKE at $11 looks a great price and the Weir stable has set him for this race and he might have a class edge on his rivals. They are my best two, but there are plenty of others with a chance!
Chris Waller has 8 runners in the Epsom Handicap. Is one of them the winner? Who is his best chance?
The Waller stable targets the Epsom every year and this year is clearly no exception. You can narrow down his best chances to D’ARGENTO ($4.4) and UNFORGOTTEN ($4.2) while his best at odds looks to be SHILLELAGH ($21). UNFORGOTTEN has been the best-backed Waller runner and I think that is a good lead for punters. D’ARGENTO is the class runner in the race but Gate 1 late in the day with possible showers around, could be an issue. Of the non-Waller runners PIERATA ($5) has been well supported to spoil the Waller party while the Waterhouse and Bott trained SIEGE OF QUEBEC ($13) looks the blowout horse.
Miss Fabulass looks like jumping an even money favourite in the Flight Stakes. Does she win?
We put her up at $2.3 and she has been backed into $2, so the punters think she will win! MISS FABULASS beat the majority of her Flight Stakes rivals comfortably in the Tea Rose a fortnight ago, and was running away from them in the straight. Her late sectionals were only bettered by WINX that day so anything similar will see her winning. It will take a special run from one of her rivals to beat her.
