Emirates Stakes 2017 Field

Race Time: 4:55 pm
November 11, 2017

2000m Race at Flemington racecourse

1. Happy Clapper (5)
J: Blake Shinn
T: Patrick Webster
W: 59kg
Best Odds: $8.00
Rating:

COMMENT: Had been racing in career best form until his run in the Cox Plate which i thought was a bit disappointing despite the fact he wasn't a chance of beating Winx. Ill be taking him on in this off the back of that Cox Plate run but a place wouldn't surprise.
2. Its Somewhat (11)
(USA)
J: Craig Williams
T: James Cummings
W: 59kg
Best Odds: $19

COMMENT: I didn't think he had a chance at Moonee Valley last start on the back of a jump out he looked really flat in but he ran really well. I thought he would take a ton of improvement from that run and thus he looks a big chance at odds in this race.
3. Gailo Chop (9)
(FR)
J: John Allen
T: Darren Weir
W: 59kg
Best Odds: $7.50
Rating:

COMMENT: Won the Caulfield stakes two starts ago before just an okay run in the Cox Plate. The Caulfield Stakes form outside of Johannes Vermeer who ran well over much further has not held up and based on that i think he is unders and ill be betting around him.
4. Tosen Stardom (4)
(JPN)
J: Damian Lane
T: Darren Weir
W: 59kg
Best Odds: $9.50
Rating:

COMMENT: Jumped as favourite in the Kennedy Mile which looked a race that suited him more than this and the field was a lot weaker. He isn't well weighted at WFA conditions in this field so i am happy to bet around him.
5. Sense Of Occasion (6)
J: Corey Brown
T: Kris Lees
W: 59kg

COMMENT: Racing flat this preparation and on his last three runs i can't have him.

COMMENT: Won the Cranbourne Cup easily before putting in a big run in the Cox Plate. Really hard to line-up his form here and at the price i think he is unders with limited exposed form. I think he is a big danger but id like to see him race in this before making him a real betting proposition at the price.
8. Sir Isaac Newton

9. Harlem (8)

COMMENT: Thought he looked a good bet in the Lexus Stakes and he looked the winner until the 2000m mark where he weakened badly. Not a stay obviously and the 2000m should suit although ill be risking him on the back of that tough run.
10. Gingernuts (12)
(NZ)
J: TBC
T: Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards
W: 58.5kg
Best Odds: $6.00
Rating:

COMMENT: New Zealand star who is having his first start in Aus after a set back which saw him miss the Caulfield Cup. A high class galloper who should not be risked by all means but his form this preparation in NZ doesn't excite me much the set back is an issue and has drawn wide. Ill be risking him.
11. Odeon (3)
(NZ)
J: Chris Symons
T: Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra
W: 58.5kg
Best Odds: $15
Rating:

Now
COMMENT: Deserves his spot in the field based on his last two runs and is in career best form. At WFA conditions he is not well weighted though and ill be leaving him out.
12. So Si Bon (1)
J: Noel Callow
T: Robbie Laing
W: 58.5kg
Best Odds: $27
Rating:

Now
COMMENT: Not really sure where they are going with this horse. He ran in the Derby last year where i thought he was a good chance then returned and was racing well over short distance but now they are stepping him up to 2000m. Not sure this is his caper, prefer him over 1200m. Ill be leaving him out.
13. The Taj Mahal (13)
(IRE)
J: Dwayne Dunn
T: David & B Hayes & T Dabernig
W: 56.5kg
Best Odds: $17
Rating:

COMMENT: Hard to take a read on him. His only run in Australia wasn't good. He was well beaten in the Caulfield Stakes which is a race i don't like the form of. I won't be including him but he is from the O'Brien stabled so maybe its worth including him?
14. Samovare (2)
J: Ben Melham
T: Aidan O'Brien
W: 57.5kg
Best Odds: $26
Rating:

Now
COMMENT: One of the likely leaders. Doesn't get enough weight relief to have her in this race and the wide barrier will mean she is doing early work which will be telling late.
15. Cliffs Edge (10)
J: Dean Yendall
T: Darren Weir
W: 51kg
Best Odds: $7.50
Rating:
Bet
Now
COMMENT: He gets into the race with a very light weight which could be a major factor. I really don't like our WFA 2000m horses at the moment so he isn't a horse i really like rather i don't like the other horses in this race. With the light weight and a field of horses which are all very beatable i think he is a big danger.
