One of Australia’s most admired racehorses of the modern era, Falvelon, has died at the age of 29 after being humanely euthanised at Glenlogan Park in Queensland late last week due to the effects of old age.

“He has been a big part of life here for almost 23 years now and his loss is being very sorely felt”, Glenlogan Park’s General Manager Steve Morley said.

“He was fantastic for both the farm and the Queensland breeding industry during his serving days and he has been a complete gentleman the whole time he has been with us.

“Having the honour of Falvelon as a part of our lives for so long is something we will never take for granted.

“He is now laying beside his old friend Show A Heart and, considering their many epic battles on the track and on the sires tables, I think that is a very fitting place for both of them.”

Prepared by Dan Bougoure, Falvelon made an immediate impact on debut with a memorable victory in the Listed Meynink Stakes at Eagle Farm, overcoming a slow start and the outside barrier in a capacity field of 16.

He followed that with six consecutive wins before suffering his first defeat when runner-up to Testa Rossa in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes.

A high-class sprinter, Falvelon played a key role in showcasing Australian speed horses on the international stage, making three trips to Hong Kong for the International Sprint where he recorded two wins and a third placing.

His domestic achievements included victories in two Group 1 Doomben 10,000 races, two BTC Cups and the Schillaci Stakes, along with placings in races such as the Newmarket Handicap, Lightning Stakes, Oakleigh Plate, Manikato Stakes, TJ Smith Stakes, Doomben 10,000, Schillaci Stakes (twice), and Linlithgow Stakes (twice).

In total, Falvelon secured nine wins at Group level and, combined with his international record, stands among the most accomplished sprinters produced in Australia.

Following retirement, he stood at stud at Glenlogan Park and sired 418 winners at an impressive strike rate of 70 per cent winners-to-runners, including 35 stakes performers.

Falvelon was crowned Champion Sprinter in Australia on two occasions and was named Champion Racehorse in Queensland three times during his career.
