Group l racing for 2026 kicks off this Saturday, with the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington attracting a star studded line up. Weather is fine, track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

1 Zambales (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is several weeks between runs since a debut second at Randwick. He was tardy away but hunted up to hold a forward spot. He tried hard but just found one better. Better for the run and had trialled well leading in, so for mine, he takes beating.

4 Hard Kick (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a son of All Too Hard that debuts for Team Hayes. He has looked very strong in jumpout work for start one, the latest being a win last week at Werribee. Should press forward and be hard to run down.

6 Autumn Lover (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a daughter of The Autumn Sun that debuts for Moody/Coleman off the back of encouraging jumpout work. Latest was last week at Pakenham when placing and seemed to move well enough. I’d say watch betting.

12 Unseen Ruler (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Matty Williams and takes beating against these. He ran third to Midnite Storm two weeks back at Caulfield, getting back to near last in the run but worked home with real purpose in a good effort in defeat. Like him up in trip. Just hoping for a more positive steer.

6 Fiorenot (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Tom Dabernig. Gave them a start and a beating to win a few weeks ago at Flemington, tracking into the race with purpose before angling wider and let down hard late to score. Hard to knock the way he’s racing, he commands respect.

10 Tarvue (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 78 grade after racing in a strong 100 two weeks back at Caulfield and while held, was far from disgraced in defeat behind the in form Magnaspin. That form reads quite well, she can run a much improved race.

1 Ole Dancer (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Moody/Coleman trained filly that resumes. The Group l winning filly hasn’t raced since the Spring when wearing down Apocalyptic to take out the Thousand Guineas. Looks to have jumped out very well for the return and 1400m fresh signals clear intent.

3 Custom (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should appreciate a rise to 1400m after resuming three weeks back in the Manfred. She just found them a bit sharp at the six furlongs but didn’t mind the way she finished her race off in defeat. Like her up in trip and can settle closer in the run.

2 Sass Appeal (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is four weeks between runs since a track/distance win, sitting on speed and was trucking before being clicked up and away he went to win and win quite impressively. Good test here rising to Stakes grade off a break, but she does look progressive.

2 Immortal Star (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is flying for Ciaron Maher and has earned a crack at this sort of grade. Loved the way she knuckled down to win at Flemington a few weeks back down the straight. She found plenty and was quite strong to the line in getting the job done. Good test here but think she’ll run well.

3 Perilous Fighter (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes back to 1100m after racing over 1200m at Flemington two back. He landed in a decent spot near the speed and did try hard but just felt the pinch late in the piece. He then went to the Sale Quality and was far from disgraced in defeat. Likes the straight course IMO…doubt he wins but can run first four.

8 Mr Magnus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is in the mix as a knockout chance. He ran over 1000m at Sandown last time when off speed and kept chasing with purpose when third. Like the extra 100m and if within range, he has the finale to be dangerous.

4 Ndola (Bet Now:  $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs, having not raced since Jan 17 when a game second over 1400m here, trying hard from just off speed but had to settle for a second to Supernima. Fresh legs, good recent jumpout, he appeals.

5 Great Maximus (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a key chance after his effort in the Durbridge. He was wide no cover on speed throughout but he battled away really well in defeat when third to Sghirripa. If that hasn’t busted him, he clearly takes beating against these.

1 Pounding (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a Moody/Coleman trained gelding that resumes. He is first up, having not raced since the Spring when contesting the Coongy and finished down the track. He can pull out a run fresh, he has jumped out well…one for exotics.

7 Jenni’s Meadow (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is bursting to win for Mark Walker. She ran two weeks ago at Caulfield over 2000m, trying hard from just off speed and just couldn’t quite wind up quick enough to score. Think she’ll love 2500m and is hard to hold out against these.

9 Stylish Secret (Bet Now:  $SP.00) has found winning form and he can certainly go on with it. He was a strong winner over 2400m at Caulfield last time, leading throughout and credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found plenty and was strong to the line. 2500m is fine, he’s one of the hardest to beat.

6 Garachico (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was quite good in defeat two back in the Bagot before going to 2400m at Caulfield where the race shape and pattern was against him so forgive and forget the run. Better suited here I feel, he’s a definite improver at odds.

5 Sabaj (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a good horse for Price/Kent that resumes. He last raced in The Ingham where he was back from the wide gate and was never really a factor. Looks to have jumped out very well for the return and with class/brilliance, he’ll take holding out.

2 Cafe Millennium (Bet Now:  $SP.00) should love getting to the Flemington 1400m. He resumed three weeks ago in the John Dillon when back off speed and was pretty good late against the pattern behind Regal Zeus. He tends to save his best for the Flemington 1400m and off the return, he takes beating.

3 Arran Bay (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was unwanted in betting when resuming in the John Dillon at Caulfield. The market said he’d need the run and that is how it eventuated behind Regal Zeus. Better set up here, likes Flemington, he’s one to include in exotics.

I’m warming more and more to 1 Giga Kick (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Massive win in the Champions Sprint in the Spring to end the prep, handling the bog track best in a driving go to score. Loved the way he trialled a couple of weeks ago, he loves the straight course and will be very strong at the end, plus love the booking of Ethan Brown.

4 Tentyris (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is the star colt and has to be respected. He made a mess of them in the Coolmore Stud and was right in betting for the Champions Sprint. Unfortunately, he played up in the gates and was a late scratching. He has jumped out pretty well and although his Grand Final is the Newmarket, he is a leading contender.

2 Baraqiel (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is a sharp short course sprinter that resumes for Corstens/Larkin. He won the Moir in the Spring before a second to Charm Stone in the Manikato and was spelled soon after. Looks to have jumped out really well and is here to play whereas some are gearing up for the Newmarket.

Happy to have a speck on 5 Officiate (Bet Now:  $SP.00) at a price. Chris Waller trained colt that went super in a recent Werribee jumpout behind Birdman, and was given a good hitout, so the grounding is there. Sixties is hard to beat, but the story has been seen many times…Waller first up bang and then a second up regress. So will go with Officiate each way.

2 Sixties (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was a big first up winner at Rosehill two weeks ago, ridden stone cold and unleashed a powerful finale against the pattern to win impressively in a big return. Fitter, he can make a real statement towards the Australian Guineas with another win here.

8 Express Class (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is racing like a rise to 1400m suits. He ran in the Manfred at Caulfield three weeks back where he got off speed and while he was never threatening, he was pretty good late. Not sure I could back him to win but a must for exotics.

If 1 Philia (Bet Now:  $SP.00) is ready to go, she wins. Market will be the guide but I do think she is the best horse in the race. She hasn’t been seen since the QLD Oaks when down the track behind You Wahng. Has had extensive trial/jumpout work to get ready and E Brown booked is a great lead for mine. Happy to be in her corner.

Bless the heart of 3 Wrote To Arataki (Bet Now:  $SP.00). Looked prepped right up for the Bellmaine two weeks ago and duly saluted, leading throughout and gave nothing else a look in. Looks to land in front…not sure if she can maintain, but if she does, she’s a clear threat.

6 Eternal Flame (Bet Now:  $SP.00) was given a sore back by Currie in the Bellmaine. The mare was comfortably held, but I did like the way she finished her race off. Like the rise to 1400m at Flemington…hasn’t fire a shot in a long time but the resumption showed me there is signs of life.

LONG SHOT: Race Nine Number 5 Officiate
