Caulfield Guineas winner Griff, the talented son of Trapeze Artist, is set to begin his stud career in Tasmania after a late switch in plans led to his relocation to Weona Park Stud.

Griff, who famously defeated Veight and Steparty in the 2023 Caulfield Guineas, was initially announced to stand at Larneuk Stud in Victoria for the 2025 season. However, an 11th-hour deal just before the breeding season saw the Group 1-winning colt transferred across Bass Strait to Tasmania.

He will now take up residence at Weona Park Stud, located in Tasmania’s Southern Midlands, roughly an hour north of Hobart. The farm, managed by Fiona Methorst, focuses on both racing and performance horse development and has significantly expanded its stallion roster for the upcoming season.

Griff is one of five new stallions set to stand at Weona Park in 2025, joining Bon Aurum, Sports Edition, More Than Value, and Utopian. The stud has already been home to Master Of Design, the Group 1-winning son of Redoute’s Choice, since 2022.

The move makes Griff the first son of Trapeze Artist to stand at stud and he will command a fee of $8250 (inc GST) in his debut season.

Bred from the stakes-placed filly Chateau Griffo, Griff notched up four wins from 15 career starts, amassing more than $2.1 million in prize money under the guidance of trainer Ciaron Maher. His resume also includes a victory in the 2023 Bill Stutt Stakes.

Griff joins a growing group of emerging young stallions in Tasmania, including Bodyguard — the well-credentialed multiple juvenile stakes winner and former $1.6 million yearling — who stands at Armidale Stud for $8800.
