The David Brideoake and Matt Jenkins stable is already looking towards the spring after the win of Prestige Snitzel at Mornington.
Victory in the Mornington Sires (1200m) on Saturday was Prestige Snitzel’s maiden victory, but Brideoake has high hopes for the filly.
Already Stakes placed after running second at Flemington in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) last month, Prestige Snitzel looked to have Saturday’s race in her keeping before the halfway mark.
Sent out the $3.10 favourite under Jamie Mott, Prestige Snitzel scored a 2-¼ length win from Toronado Queen ($4) with Casual Ghai ($6.50) a further 1-½ lengths away third.
Brideoake expects Prestige Snitzel to stretch out in trip as a three-year-old and said the filly would now head for a break with the spring in mind.
“I think she will be a filly that will stay, and could get out to a mile in the spring,” Brideoake said.
“She can have a rest now and see what the spring brings.”
Prestige Snitzel is the third ‘Prestige’ two-year-old to win for the Brideoake and Jenkins team in the past month.
“We’ve got a good team, and we’ve got some pretty good stock at the moment,” Brideoake said.
“It all adds up and the rewards are good.”
Brideoake praised Mott’s ride after the filly jumped from the second widest gate.
“I liked the ride. After they had gone probably 300 metres, Jamie was positioned up pretty damn well,” Brideoake said.
“We had to see how much the others had to offer at the testing time, and she was good enough.
“She was race savvy and race hardened, so she had the advantage.”
Mott said Prestige Snitzel gives him the impression she will handle extra ground but said the filly still had a ‘baby brain’.
“Even though she was a bit more switched on today, she was shying at everything going to the barrier and after the race,” Mott said.
“She’s still got a bit of a baby brain, but she gives you a great feel and hopefully she can stretch out in distance and if she can, she will be a serious horse.”
