The star Perth-owned mare is building to her resumption in next month’s Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.
Stepping out publicly for new trainers, Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald, Amelia’s Jewel ran second in her 900m heat, splitting trial winner, Ducasse and Tiz Invincible.
Berry said it was a light trial and a good starting point for Amelia’s Jewel.
“It was pretty much a trot and canter for the first 600m and then we just sprinted up the straight,” Tommy Berry said on Tabradio.
“From all reports that I’ve been given in the past she’s not usually the best worker or the best trialer.
“She’s going to take improvement, she’s still got a belly on her, but pulled up really well in the wind.
“It wasn’t the strongest hit out and we’ll know more after her second trial, how forward she is fitness wise.
“She hadn’t done a lot of work at home before then, a couple of gallops.
“But, she’ll take great benefit out of that and gave me a great feel.
“Everything I wanted to see from her she provided and I’m very excited to see what comes from her.
“She’s a no-nonsense sort of mare and I expected nothing less from speaking with Patty (Carbery) and Simon (Miller).
“Really looking forward to seeing her go on.”
Amelia’s Jewel transferred to Sydney after the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) in Adelaide.
The Morphettville feature sprint was her final run for Perth trainer, Simon Miller.
Under his guidance Amelia’s Jewel won nine races, ran second four times and collected $3.5 million in stake earnings.
Her haul of victories at home included a career peak in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) at Ascot.
Last spring in Victoria she claimed dual Group 2 wins in the Let’s Elope (1400m) at Flemington and the Stocks Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
