Craig WilliamsĀ had to choose between threeĀ horses as his rideĀ in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.
In the end he settled on topweight, the Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained SeeĀ YouĀ heaven, despite having won his only two rides onĀ Papillon Club.
But having won twoĀ stakes’Ā races, including the Group 2 Sandown Guineas last springĀ on See You Heaven,Ā theĀ swungĀ the pendulum in her favour.
“It was a hard choice,” Williams said.
“I’ve ridden her three times, for two wins and one of them was a GuineasĀ and I was very unlucky on herĀ in my other ride on herĀ on Oaks Day.
“It was one of those things. On ratings, on races won and when you win a Guineas on a horse, it’s very hard not to ride it.
“People always say it’s great to beĀ in a positionĀ to be able toĀ make a decision, but when you finallyĀ have toĀ make that decision, it doesn’t feel that way.
“It is what it is, and in the end, you can only ride one horse in one race and that’s the way it works.”
Following a break after winning the Sandown Guineas, See You In HeavenĀ returned to run second in the Listed Durbridge Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on January 28.
Williams said he spoke to Richard Jolly last week.
“He was happy with her first-up run and she usually comes on from her first-up run,” Williams said.
Williams concedes Papillon ClubĀ will be hard to beat having guided her to victories at Geelong and Flemington along with a trial win at Cranbourne on February 6.
“She’s really an untapped filly,” Williams said.
“I guess if you look at the ratings and where they are at, my horseĀ (See YouĀ InĀ Heaven)Ā isĀ really wellĀ off at the weights. On ratings she is the best horse in the race, but the other horses haven’t got to their ceiling either.
“She will be stiff oppositionĀ andĀ I know a bit about her, so that will be part of my homework.”
