25/2/2022 Horse Racing Tips and Best Bets – Canterbury

Night racing continues at Canterbury this Friday. The weather forecast is for showers, the track is heavy (9) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Going to speck 16 Master Showman (Bet Now: $4.80) each way in the opener. Full brother to Trapeze Artist that resumes, having not raced since his debut in the Breeders Plate when far from disgraced behind Sejardan. He has trialled up well enough on a couple of occasions but the big tick for me is Blinkers first time. Remember Trapeze Artist. He went from okay horse to a star when the Blinkers went on, so I’m happy to take double figures to find out.

1 Hell I Am (Bet Now: $2.60) is a son of Hellbent for John O’Shea that is back from a break. Tried to force his way into the Magic Millions but could only manage a fourth in the Gold Nugget at the Gold Coast. Thought he moved well in a recent trial and is bred to handle a wet track, plus gets J Mac.

2 Black Tahitian (Bet Now: $12.00) will put himself on speed and try hard. That was the case first up at Canberra and he showed decent fight in the straight, just missing out on the win when a narrow second to Lethal Lady. Wet track, on breeding anyway, should be fine, and has the right racing style.

9 Ringarosa (Bet Now: $3.60) on top for me. Gary Portelli trained filly that ran over this track/distance two weeks ago and I think it’s safe to say that with clear air, she just about wins instead of a luckless fifth behind Mayrose. Proven on wet ground and J Mac, who rode last time, is sticking.

Beware the unbeaten horse so I am giving respect to 6 Shades Of Rose (Bet Now: $2.30). 2/2 to start her career, both wins coming over 1100m at Bathurst. Tough win on debut but next start, she looked like Black Caviar the way she spanked them by nearly eight lengths. She deserves a crack in town.

1 Park Avenue (Bet Now: $8.50) is the class runner of the field and I think can run a positive race here. Resumed over 1100m here where the race shape wasn’t exactly to her liking but I thought she made up some headway with purpose in a good return. Back to her own age, she can bounce back.

5 Inuwashi (Bet Now: $12.00) would be a living breathing if he was in a 1800m maiden at Newcastle, but there does look to be good speed here, so I want to be on something strong at the end, and he will be. He ran over 1550m in a maiden last time and was good late without threatening when second to The Artefact. Tempo will be genuine, he’ll get his chance to finish over the top.

2 Ocean Shores (Bet Now: $7.00) looks to be heading in the right direction for Chris Waller. 12/10 steer from Tommy Berry saw him win over 1550m here in a maiden two weeks ago, charging to the line late after getting a suck run nearer the inside. The rise to 1900m looks ideal and J Mac, who would have had a few options, rides this guy.

11 Kiterro (Bet Now: $20.00) is one I can entertain for wider multiples. She lacks the class of some of these, but she will stay, put herself on speed and doesn’t mind getting her toe in. Looked to get every chance at Gosford in front under Tommy Berry but just whacked away late when third to Sprout Wings. One for exotics.

4 Sixgun (Bet Now: $3.60) is becoming costly to follow but I think he gets his chance here. He has got a mile out of his ground in all three runs this time in but has hit the line with purpose each time, and I think he wins last start if he doesn’t come as wide as he did. Hard to beat.

6 Miss Jay Fox (Bet Now: $4.20) has gate one, she likes wet ground and will likely be in front…easy to see why she will be popular. Led throughout to win at this track/distance last time out, beating a similar field under a lovely front running steer from Jason Collett. Hard to beat from the front.

7 What Could Be (Bet Now: $13.00) is a query on a truly heavy track but he’s flying for David Atkins. Both runs have come at this track/distance this time in, winning first up and beating Miss Jay Fox before working home well against the pattern behind Sky Command. Knockout chance.

I am a bit surprised double figures is on offer for 7 Ita (Bet Now: $10.00). Probably staying at 1250m is the knock but given she’s a 1600m+ horse, a hard 1250m here is up her alley. The resumption came here behind Mosht Up and I thought it was more than a pass mark. Loves getting her toe in, will be fence in run…she seems overs.

4 Sindacato (Bet Now: $3.30) could start odds on here or start $4+. Market will be fascinating with this former Kiwi, who was well fancied to win last Saturday at Rosehill but was scratched. The trial was a quiet piece of work and the NZ form does read quite well. Market will tell you what the result will be.

5 Lord Zoulander (Bet Now: $10.00) is the swimmer of the field so not totally penning him. He resumed over this track/distance and didn’t fire a shot behind Sessions Road, but post race was found to be slow to recover, so he had an excuse. His heavy track stats keep him in the mix.

12 Zoumon (Bet Now: $2.80) is a swimmer who should be better for the first up run over 1550m here two weeks ago where he took a sit and worked to the line strongly when a close up third to the well tried Fill Of Fun. Love him up in trip and I suspect Tim Clark will be much more aggressive this time around.

2 Pale King (Bet Now: $5.50) is back in business I feel. He should have won first up at Caulfield a few weeks ago. Just couldn’t get a chance to build the revs but was good when eventually clear. He’s been hit and miss since arriving in Australia but his best is definitely good enough.

I reckon this run will tell us if 9 Benaud (Bet Now: $5.50) is indeed a 3YO classic horse. Resumed over 1400m at Warwick Farm and I thought his effort was a definite pass mark in a leader dominated affair, he had no chance given where he was, but was good late. Gets to a more suitable trip and should love the wet track.

With the scratchings, this field has thinned out so with that, I’m with 10 Hemmerle (Bet Now: $11.00), who once upon a time was a Country Championships contender for Danny Williams, is now flying under the care of Danielle Sieb, winning three on the bounce, including a spank job at Moruya with 60kg. He gets right down in the weights, lands on speed and I think can measure up.

2 Bethencourt (Bet Now: $5.00) looks to have returned in good order. Market wanted him fresh at Warwick Farm and worked to the line pretty well I thought when a close up fourth. Gets a big jockey upgrade with a hungry Nash taking over and despite drawing wide, is hard to beat.

I just keep waiting for 5 Ashim (Bet Now: $6.00) to do something positive. He has been really disappointing since arriving from France, but he just teases enough to suggest that he might do something. Got too far back at Warwick Farm last time and was okay to the line. He won’t mind some give in the track and is big odds.

Siding with 7 Beep Test (Bet Now: $3.90) in the get out. Market kept her quite safe when resuming at Warwick Farm but she didn’t go a yard at all and was terrible behind another progressive filly, Roots. Pulled up with Cardiac Arrhythmia so a clear excuse. Trial since was good and the set up here looks perfect for her if she’s right to go. Gate one, wet track and a somewhat thin race.

10 Arranmore (Bet Now: $3.80) is a daughter of Astern for Chris Waller that resumes. This girl had a three run prep in the Spring to start her career, showing good promise each time she stepped out, ending the prep with a win at Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day. Has trialled up well and stable wouldn’t run fresh on a heavy track unless she’s ready to go.

11 Huzzah (Bet Now: $13.00) is a James Cummings trained filly who deserves another crack in town. Loved the way she knuckled down late to win at Hawkesbury last time, really savaging the line the final few strides. Has failed in town previously but I do feel is a better horse this time around.

LONG SHOT: Race Five Number 7 Ita
