An injury incurred at Caulfield today could see big changes to the 2019 Melbourne Cup market depending on the seriousness.
One of the key runners in the 2019 Melbourne Cup, Steel Prince was scratched behind the barriers ahead of the Herbert Power Stakes where he was the clear favourite in betting.
The extent of the injury is yet to be known but even if the horse has suffered no lasting injury, Steel Prince’s campaign has been thrown off which could prove to be an issue getting the horse to peak fitness ahead of the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 5th.
Prior to the incident Steel Prince was a $21 chance in Melbourne Cup odds where he is guaranteed a run after winning the Andrew Ramsden Stakes.
Steel Prince was $41 with Ladbrokes for the 2019 Caulfield Cup but had to win todays race to make the field.
Updates on the horses condition to come in the next few days.
