Roger James may try for a second victory in a top Sydney fillies feature in April with Sunday’s impressive Ellerslie winner Silent Achiever.
The O’Reilly filly took on the colts and geldings in the Group Two Championship Stakes (2100m) and emerged a clear-cut winner, sprinting from a midfield spot on a slow pace to out-finish well performed gelding Shuka.
James won the Group One Storm Queen Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill in 2002 with Sixty Seconds and he thinks Silent Achiever could be up to emulating her.
“I have no firm plans for her yet but I think 2000 metres might be her best distance,” James said.
“I’ve won the 2000 metre Group One fillies race at Rosehill before and some time ago I thought that might be a race for her.”
Other options could include the New Zealand Oaks (2400m) in March but she may not contest that race if a trip across the Tasman is on the cards as James wants to ensure Silent Achiever is at her peak if she gets to Australia.
“If you carry on too long here you can be over the top by the time you go there and I know for one thing you don’t win Group races at carnival time in Australia with tired horses.”
Shuka fought well for second ahead of another filly, Lady Krovanh.
