Former federal politician Peter McGauran has resigned his position as chief executive with Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA) and Aushorse Marketing.
McGauran is leaving to pursue a number of private business ventures but the breeding organisations say they hope he will not be lost to the industry.
TBA president Trevor Lobb said he hoped McGauran would remain within the industry in some capacity after he served out the time while the search for a replacement was conducted.
“It has been a great privilege to work with Australia’s breeders who rank alongside the most innovative and successful in the world,” McGauran said.
“Australian horses are dominant throughout Asia and regularly adorn the winners’ circle of the major racetracks in the northern hemisphere which is a tribute to the foresight and international outlook of the Australian industry.”
McGauran was the Minister for Agriculture when equine influenza hit Australia in August 2007 and was instrumental in gaining a multi-million dollar package for the racing industry at that time.
