Xavier Blair gives us his race by race previews of today’s Victorian meeting at Echuca which boasts a ten race card. View his tips and selections.

Form Guide

Race 1 – 11:20AM Add Print SV 2YO Maiden Plate (1009 METRES)

Tricky event to open a cracking program where we see a bunch of unraced 2yo’s do battle over the short course. Not many have trialled but of those who have, (5) Mr Bourke looks to have the better of (2) Eurongilly. The early market will be the best guide but on breeding it’s worth looking at (3) Hidden Symbol, (4) Meethaq, (7) Commandantree and (9) Mrs McVoom. If the likely solid support comes for one of those, i’d suggest having a small investment to try and build a bank for the rest of the day.

Race 2 – 11:50AM Border Inn Hotel/Motel Maiden Plate (1009 METRES)

Handful of chances here headed by the top weight (1) Click Up who went down narrolwy on debut to the smart Orinoco. That form is arguably city class and should break his maiden duck here. Hardest to beat are the Darren Weir trained pair of (8) My Bellydancer and (9) Pure Fantasy with the former being scratched from the ‘Bool’ last week to run fresh here today and the latter looking to go one better on his second at Stawell last month. They look the main three.

(1) Click Up
(8) My Bellydancer
(9) Pure Fantasy
(12) Tequila Ice

Race 3 – 12:20PM Deniliquin RSL Maiden Plate (1412 METRES)

(6) Tornado Jack resumes today and looks more then capable of making start number eight a winning one after a solid first campaign last year. He would have improved nicely through the break and can easily go through his grades after today. (12) Universal Rose was a massive run last start. She was never on the track at Seymour but still fought the race out right to the line, going down by the narrowest of margins. If she holds her form she goes close. The interesting runner is the Robbie Griffiths first starter (3) Mapuche who has an awkward alley to contend with. Keep an eye on the market with him.

(6) Tornado Jack
(12) Universal Rose
(3) Mapuche
(1) Captangreggi

Race 4 – 12:55PM Echuca Signs 0 – 58 Handicap (1618 METRES)

(4) Meet Me At Raffles is a talented gelding from the Midge Didham yard who has been a little below his best in recent times. He’s won here before over the mile and if he can push forward from his wide gate, he’ll be awfully hard to run down. (5) Sharp Way doesn’t win out of turn but he’s not alone in this sort of race and has been around the mark in this class in recent runs. Go on his consecutive seconds in Feb/March and he looks well graded. (13) Club Zero is the query runner who comes off a couple of awful efforts but this is a drop in grade and I suspect Robbie Griffiths will have him ticking along nicely as he is back at the races.

(4) Meet Me At Raffles
(5) Sharp Way
(13) Club Zero

Race 5 – 1:30PM Perfect Party Hire 0 – 58 Handicap (1618 METRES)

Hard to split a few of these but (2) Divine Luck should be fully fit after three runs this time in as he rises to the mile. He showed a ton of promise early in his career, running second on debut to the Peter Snowden trained ‘Zachary’ at Caulfield. (1) Cheville should get a good run on the speed and must be included, along with one of the best roughies of the day (10) Cinnamona who will relish the mile today.

(2) Divine Luck
(1) Cheville
(10) Cinnamona * (Roughie) *
(6) Estam Lady

Race 6 – 2:05PM Laser Electrical 0 – 58 Handicap (1618 METRES)

Very ordinary race and if (4) Muktashef can’t breakthrough here i’m not sure if he ever will. His last start second to ‘Slippery Satin’ at Seymour is excellent form for this and can easily progress to a 0-68 if he keeps improving as the distances increase. (6) Just Hustled comes through that same race at Seymour but was a touch further back in fourth and will have to find a length or two to turn the tables. (3) Fund Us Keep Us was close up in a stronger race last start and is the testing material. Include (10) Imstillbattling when going wide, who bobs up from time to time with the right run.

(4) Muktashef
(6) Just Hustled
(3) Fund Us Keep Us
(10) Imstillbattling

Race 7 – 2:40PM 2011 Slickpix Silver Bowl Series Heat 1 (1209 METRES)

Top race here where the Peter Moody trained (6) Limerock should bounce back to her best after a disappointing effort when a drifter first up down the Flemington straight. She was a winner in mid week grade at Sandown late last year and has plenty of ability to be a force here. (12) Legion’s Belle is another city performed galloper who ran ok when first up at Caulfield behind La Praline. She can win this. (1) Image of Darkness beat a handy field at Moonee Valley back in March and is fresh for this.

(6) Limerock
(12) Legion’s Belle
(1) Image Of Darkness
(2) Al Jandar

Race 8 – 3:15PM Torrumbarry Hotel Steaks 0 – 72 Handicap (1412 METRES)

Like (12) Distant Romance who races well here and drops in weight for his last start handy Kerang victory. Jockey Dean Holland has won on him before and look for him to be making a spirited bid late in the piece. (1) Brillanconi is better suited over further but has won first up in the past and this event isn’t overly strong. He is likely to be put up on the speed and if he’s done enough work, he’ll stick on well. (9) Likely Lad has strong formlines through Warrnambool winner ‘Melete’ and a repeat performance sees him in the finish here.

(12) Distant Romance
(1) Brillanconi
(9) Likely Lad
(13) Buzzwin

Race 9 – 3:50PM IASbet 0 – 62 Handicap (1209 METRES)

(1) Sundown Clown has shown plenty of ability in his short career and has finally started to put it all together, especially at his past couple including a second and at his latest a strong win at Geelong defeating subsequent winner Mr Crane. (5) A Night In Honkers is progressing well coming off the back of a handy Stawell win.

(1) Sundown Clown
(5) A Night In Honkers
(7) Filouka
(9) Bluey’s Mist

Race 10 – 4:30PM Moama RSL Super Vobis 0 – 68 Handicap (2124 METRES)

(1) Whitebait should be fully fit after three runs in and also note he was specked last start before finishing midfield behind ‘Guadalcanal’. (4) The Night’s Hot is in career best form and must be included in the chances, along with (7) Rose Of China and (8) Mr O’Postrophe who could blow these away if the real gelding turned up.

(1) Whitebait
(4) The Night’s Hot
(7) Rose Of China
(8) Mr O’Postrophe
