Sir Michael Stoute is considering a tilt at the Summer Mile at Ascot on Saturday week with his high-class middle-distance performer Carlton House.
Third for the Queen in last year’s English Derby at Epsom, the colt made a winning four-year-old debut in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown.
He ran an excellent second behind the now-retired So You Think in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot and it seems whether he returns to Ascot next weekend or not, his next start will be over a mile.
“It’s possible he could go for the Summer Mile,” Stoute told Racing UK.
“I’ll see how he is over the weekend when I give him a good piece of work.
“It was Ryan’s (Moore) idea (to try a mile). We know he’s pretty decent at a mile and a quarter, but I think we’re about to try a mile and it could be at Ascot or it could be the Jacques le Marois.”
