Group One winning sprinter Sole Power has set himself up for another lucrative summer by stamping his authority on the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket.
The Eddie Lynam-trained globetrotter has only won twice since he sprang a 100-1 surprise the Nunthorpe in 2010, although he has been placed on numerous occasions.
Fast ground brings out the best in Sole Power (7-2 eq fav) and he ran strongly to hold off veteran Kingsgate Native by a length with Tangerine Trees third.
“He’s brought us all over the world and gives 110 per cent every time,” Lynam said.
“What he wants is fast ground, five furlongs (1000m) and when he gets a bit of luck in running, he’s very good.
“He’ll go for the Temple Stakes next (at Haydock on May 25). He just got touched off by Bated Breath in it last year, then he’ll go to the King’s Stand.
“I may try him in the July Cup, Johnny is begging me to run him over six (furlongs) so I may have to listen to him.
“Then he’ll go for the Nunthorpe and the Abbaye. If they invite us he might go to Hong Kong, too.”
Among Sole Power’s opposition in the King’s Stand will be Australian Shamexpress, winner of the Newmarket Handicap.
