Connections of Kauto Stone are keeping their options open and their feet on the ground after Kauto Star’s half-brother made a scintillating start to his steeplechasing career on Saturday.
The French import, owned by Robin Geffen and trained by Paul Nicholls, may run again next month at either Punchestown or Huntingdon.
He will also be given an entry in the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day, a race his illustrious sibling has won four times.
“It was an absolutely fantastic start to his chasing career over here. We couldn’t have asked for more,” the owner’s racing manager Charlie Liverton said.
“Blazing Tempo (third) is a very good benchmark and the second horse (Roi Du Mee) was fresh from winning a Grade Three, so we knew we were going to have to go some seeing as we were giving them all weight.
“But he did it with real aplomb and Paul Carberry has given him a lovely introduction to racing over here in the UK.
“He’s come out of the race absolutely fine, not a bother on him.
“He’s still only young so we are going to manage him accordingly, but he’s certainly one that will lighten up a few damp, winter days over the coming few years.
“We can’t get too over-excited just yet, but from what we saw on Saturday he’s a horse that will hopefully take Mr Geffen’s colours to some exciting winner’s enclosures.
“We will certainly give him entries for the King George and obviously the Gold Cup but I think it might be a year too soon for those sorts of races, but you never know.”
