Ed Dunlop is hoping for better luck in Hong Kong with Red Cadeaux when the five-year-old bids to go one better than his agonising defeat in the Melbourne Cup.
The Newmarket trainer reports Red Cadeaux to be on course for the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase over a mile and a half (2400m) at Sha Tin on December 11.
Red Cadeaux was beaten a nose by Dunaden at Flemington in the closest ever finish to the Melbourne Cup.
“He’s going to Hong Kong next for the Vase. That’s exciting,” Dunlop told At The Races.
“He’s come out of the race really well. We’re very proud of him, but it was a frustrating one.
“It was a great experience and we’ll be going again for the Melbourne Cup if we have the right horse, maybe Red Cadeaux, and hopefully we can go one better.”
