Carlton House is set to drop back in distance in the Summer Mile at Ascot on Saturday.
Trainer Sir Michael Stoute has confirmed the Queen’s colt will take his chance in the Group Two on the round course at the Berkshire track.
The four-year-old has not run over that distance since his juvenile days when he won at Newbury at his second start.
Carlton House finished second to So You Think in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes (2000m) at the Royal Ascot meeting.
Third in last season’s Derby at Epsom and fourth in the Irish equivalent, Carlton House was off the track after the Curragh until he made a triumphant return in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in late May.
“He’s run two very creditable races over 10 furlongs (2000m) and obviously he was a Dante winner last year over 10 furlongs, but we’re going to try a mile on Saturday,” Stoute told Sky Sports News.
