Anthony Cummings insists it is unfair to call Your Song a wet track wonder and he wants firm footing for the Doomben 10,000 to prove his point.
Your Song thrashed several of his 10,000 rivals when he won the Group One BTC Cup by five lengths at Eagle Farm on May 11 on a heavy track but Cummings believes he will be equally effective on good ground.
“I would prefer to see it on a good track and stop all the question marks about whether he’s better on the wet and whether his win was exaggerated the other day,” he told Sky Sports Radio.
“That does a disservice to the horse. He’s always presented as a Group One horse and he’s finally ticked that box.”
Cummings is confident jockey Hugh Bowman’s coolness under pressure will help Your Song to overcome a wide alley in Saturday’s $650,000 race.
Your Song remains favourite for the 10,000 but has drifted from $2.60 to $3 after coming up with the outside stall in the 15-horse field.
The past 10 winners of the Group One sprint have started from inside barrier eight.
“I don’t think there’ll be any shortage of speed and there’s bound to be a gap somewhere,” Cummings said.
“At the end of the day that’s what Hughie’s there for. He’s a good jockey and he’ll find a spot.”
Cummings is seeking his first win in the 10,000 while Bowman won aboard Red Oog in 2005.
Your Song worked in blinkers on the course proper on Tuesday at Doomben but they will be removed in the 10,000.
“He’s a difficult horse to read off trackwork because he generally saves his best for raceday,” Cummings said.
“In saying that his work on Tuesday was a step above what he was doing in Sydney and of a similar nature to when he won a barrier trial by seven lengths before he went to Brisbane.”
Golden Rose winner Epaulette has firmed to $5.50 after drawing barrier four and will race for the first time in a visor.
Trainer Peter Snowden elected to add the visor and remove winkers from Epaulette in the wake of his sixth to All Too Hard in the All Aged Stakes on April 27.
Epaulette trialled with the visor on when he finished second to 10,000 rival Manawanui in a 1030m barrier trial at Rosehill on May 14.
